Job Description
The GPS Technician is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing GPS and machine control systems used in construction operations. This role ensures accurate layout, grading, and earthwork activities through proper implementation of GPS technology, data management, and field support. The GPS Technician works closely with project managers, surveyors, equipment operators, and field crews to enhance productivity, reduce rework, and maintain project accuracy.
GPS Technician Responsibilities:
· Install, calibrate, and maintain GPS machine control systems on construction equipment.
· Upload, and manage digital terrain models (DTMs) and site data.
· Troubleshoot GPS hardware and software issues in the field.
· Coordinate with surveyors to verify control points and site calibration.
· Provide training and support to equipment operators and field crews.
· Perform quality control checks to ensure grading and layout accuracy.
· Maintain organized project data and documentation.
Requirements:Qualifications:
· 3+ years of experience in construction, surveying, or heavy civil operations.
· Experience with GPS machine control systems and site calibration.
· Proficiency in construction modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Carlson).
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
· Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
· Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Surveying, or related field (preferred).
