Neurology APN/NP/PA (Inpatient) Stroke Program
Location: Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center
Shift: Flex (Day/Night/Weekend)
Reports to: Lead Stroke APP
Position Summary:
- Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center is seeking a certified Advanced Practice Nurse/Nurse Practitioner to join the Comprehensive Stroke Center as a Neurology APP
- This provider will play a key role in the management of acute stroke and neurology patients, with responsibilities that include patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, documentation, consultations, daily rounds, staff education, research support, quality metric participation, billing, and community outreach
- The Neurology APP will practice in collaboration with the attending Neurologist and function within the policies, procedures, and standards of the hospital, the New Jersey Nurse Practice Act, and the State Board of Nursing,
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive care for acute stroke and inpatient neurological patients
- Perform advanced assessments, neurological examinations, diagnosis, and treatment planning
- Complete stroke and neurology consultations in a timely manner
- Conduct daily patient rounds and ongoing management of hospitalized patients
- Document clearly and accurately in accordance with hospital standards
- Order, initiate, and perform appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions
- Prescribe and adjust medications in accordance with collaborative practice agreements and protocols
- Anticipate patient needs, evaluate response to treatment, and modify plans of care as needed
- Participate in discharge planning and support smooth transitions of care
- Support outpatient follow-up and transitions-of-care neurology clinic needs
- Collaborate closely with physicians, nursing, rehabilitation, case management, and interdisciplinary teams
- Participate in team meetings, conferences, and quality improvement initiatives
- Assist with inpatient staff education and professional development
- Support research trial screening, enrollment, and patient management as applicable
- Participate in data collection, quality metric review, and national database reporting
- Contribute to stroke-related community outreach and education efforts
- Participate in billing for applicable payers
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
- Masters degree in nursing from an accredited program
- Current Advanced Practice Nurse license through the New Jersey State Board of Nursing
- Current Registered Nurse license in the State of New Jersey
- National certification through AANP or ANCC
- CDS and DEA license in New Jersey
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Graduate of an Accredited PA Program
- Current New Jersey PA License
- NCCPA Certification
Requirement:
- 8 stroke CME credits
- NIHSS
- MRS
- ENLS
- Proficient computer skills
- Excellent communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience caring for neurology or acute stroke patients strongly preferred
- ICU experience
