POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Perioperative Nurse Fellow is a full-time Monday – Friday training position for nurses new to the operating room environment. The goal of fellowship is to provide the tools and skills needed for the novice OR nurse to grow into competent and independent nurse circulators. Components of fellowship include: completion of a didactic perioperative course with successful scores, following rotation requirements in surgical services as assigned by department educators or leadership team, and punctual, consistent attendance to assigned work schedule. Upon completion of fellowship, the nurse will transition to a full time circulator position within the department. Shift to be determined based on department needs.
The nurse is responsible for the delivery and documentation of patient care during the intra-operative period. This includes knowledge and preparation of the surgical suite. The RN will assess the patient’s needs, physiologically as well as emotionally, and plan nursing care accordingly. The nursing role during this phase focuses on providing quality patient care through familiarity with and adherence to policies and procedures, and standards of practice for perioperative nursing. The nurse will also monitor compliance to established standards, policies and procedures for ancillary staff. He/she will facilitate and demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
RN with two or more years of nursing experience required. Must have a current American Heart Association Basic Life Support and Health Care Provider card. BSN highly preferred. American Heart Association ACLS completion highly preferred or must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
LICENSURE
Current license from the Board of Nurse Examiners of the State of Texas to practice as a Registered Nurse is required.
