Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for accurately recording, reconciling, and analyzing monthly accounting activity to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. This role supports the organization's financial operations through general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, payroll processing, customer billing, accounts receivable management, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Prepare and record monthly journal entries, including but not limited to prepaids, fixed assets, accruals, credit card activity, and other general ledger transactions.
Reconcile daily cash receipts and subsidiary ledgers, including credit card transactions, and prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts and supporting schedules for prepaids, fixed assets, accrued liabilities, and other assigned accounts.
Process weekly payroll, ensuring all employee changes and payroll transactions are accurately recorded.
Record and reconcile monthly health insurance expenses and employee benefit deductions.
Prepare and process bi-monthly and monthly customer invoices.
Monitor and analyze accounts receivable activity, investigate discrepancies, and assist with customer account reconciliations.
Manage collection efforts for past-due customer accounts while maintaining positive customer relationships.
Analyze monthly balance sheet and income statement variances and assist with financial reporting.
Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
Assist with special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
Recommend and support improvements to accounting systems, internal controls, and financial processes to ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy within accounting operations and assist with implementation of approved process improvements.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university preferred.
Four to five years of progressive accounting experience required.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Working knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting principles.
High degree of accuracy with exceptional attention to detail.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
