Welder/ Fitter II in Ridgeville, South Carolina at Carolina Heavy Steel

Position Summary

Performs structural fitting and welding independently with limited supervision.

Essential Duties

• Read and interpret fabrication drawings.
• Fit, tack, and weld assemblies.
• Verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Operate fabrication and welding equipment safely.
• Troubleshoot routine fabrication issues.

Experience

• 2–5 years of structural welding/fitting experience.

Qualifications

• Strong blueprint interpretation skills.
• Knowledge of fabrication methods and tools.
• Ability to solve fit-up issues independently.
• Ability to pass intermediate welding qualification tests.
• Strong knowledge of welding practices and procedures.
• Ability to operate oxy-fuel and plasma cutting equipment.

Hours

• Monday – Thursday 6:00am – 4:30pm
• Overtime may be required.

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 2–5 years of welding and fitting experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or heavy industrial environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and weld symbols.
• Proficient in FCAW (Flux Core), GMAW (MIG), and/or SMAW (Stick) welding processes.
• Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform basic shop math.
• Experience fitting and assembling fabricated steel components.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment weld test if required.
• Read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications.
• Fit, align, and assemble components prior to welding.
• Perform quality welds that meet company and customer standards.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, grinders, torches, and fabrication equipment.
• Inspect completed work to ensure accuracy and quality.
• Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE.
• Work independently with limited supervision.
• AWS welding certification or ability to obtain certification.
• Experience operating overhead cranes and forklifts.
• Experience working with heavy plate steel and large assemblies.
• Knowledge of welding inspection standards and quality requirements.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb throughout the shift.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing or fabrication shop environment.
• Ability to work overtime as required.
• Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
• Ability to meet production schedules while maintaining quality standards.
