Job Description

Principal Systems Engineer, Manufacturing Systems

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Systems Engineer, Manufacturing Systems based in Canada.

This role is an opportunity to become the key manufacturing systems expert within a software product organization, shaping solutions that directly support global production operations.
You will act as the voice of manufacturing, translating complex operational workflows into scalable software capabilities that improve efficiency and decision-making.
Embedded within a collaborative product team, you will bridge the gap between plant operations, software development, and business stakeholders.
Your expertise in production planning, scheduling, inventory management, and manufacturing execution will guide the evolution of enterprise systems used across multiple facilities.
The position combines strategic influence with hands-on problem solving, requiring strong technical understanding and close engagement with manufacturing teams.
You will work in a remote-first, international environment where autonomy, innovation, and continuous improvement are highly valued.

Accountabilities:
  • Serve as the primary manufacturing systems subject matter expert for software product and engineering teams, providing guidance on production scheduling, capacity planning, bottleneck management, inventory control, and shop-floor workflows.
  • Partner with product managers and technical teams to translate complex manufacturing processes into clear software requirements, ensuring solutions accurately reflect real-world operational needs.
  • Review and validate user stories, technical specifications, and prototypes from a manufacturing operations perspective before development and deployment.
  • Build trusted relationships with plant managers, production planners, and operations leaders, acting as a bilingual advisor and connection point between manufacturing teams and software stakeholders.
  • Gather operational feedback, identify process improvement opportunities, and convert business challenges into actionable product enhancements.
  • Support manufacturing system implementations by traveling to facilities, ensuring operational data, production parameters, routing logic, and capacity models are accurately configured.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex issues involving the interaction between software systems and physical manufacturing processes.
  • Monitor system adoption and effectiveness after deployment, helping teams optimize workflows, reporting, and operational performance.
Requirements:
  • 4+ years of professional experience in manufacturing environments, with strong knowledge of production planning, scheduling, capacity management, inventory tracking, and operational workflows.
  • Professional fluency in both English and Spanish, with the ability to communicate technical concepts, software requirements, and manufacturing metrics in both languages.
  • Experience working with enterprise manufacturing systems such as MIS, ERP, MRP, or MES platforms, particularly in areas related to scheduling and inventory management.
  • Ability to independently operate within a software product environment, identify opportunities, build relationships, and drive initiatives forward.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations and the ability to connect business processes with technical solutions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 25–40% of business days to support manufacturing facilities and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to influence both technical and operational teams.
  • Experience working within Agile or Scrum software development teams is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with data analytics and visualization tools used for operational reporting and capacity management dashboards is a plus.
  • A degree or equivalent experience in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations Management, or a related technical field is preferred.
Benefits:
  • Remote-first work environment with flexibility to work from home.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with global teams across multiple countries and regions.
  • High level of autonomy and ownership, with the ability to directly influence enterprise-scale manufacturing solutions.
  • Collaborative culture focused on innovation, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Opportunities to work with advanced software platforms supporting large-scale production operations.
  • Access to professional growth opportunities and the ability to expand expertise across manufacturing, technology, and product development.
  • Supportive workplace environment that values diverse perspectives and encourages employees to contribute ideas.
