Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Prepares salads, deli items, and other food products for sale according to established recipes and quality standards, while helping maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe kitchen prep area. This role also supports the Deli team by assisting with dishwashing and general kitchen cleanliness. This position reports to the Deli/Bakery/Coffee House Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Prepares salads, deli items, and other food products according to established recipes and portioning standards.
- Follows established recipes to ensure consistency, quality, and presentation of all prepared items.
- Practices safe handling of knives, slicers, and other sharp equipment when preparing food.
- Makes ready hot and cold items for the display case and/or customer orders.
- Packages salads, deli items, and special requests for customers.
- Stamps, marks, weighs, and tags/labels merchandise accurately, including pricing and dates.
- Rotates stock to maintain freshness, checking and removing outdated product.
- Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen prep area, coolers, and equipment.
- Assists with dishwashing and maintains clean, sanitized utensils and equipment to support overall Deli operations.
- Follows all food safety, sanitation, and health department standards.
- Follows the direction of the Sous Chef and Head Chef.
- Maintains high attention to detail in food preparation, packaging, and presentation.
- Provides exceptional customer service by engaging with customers and answering questions in a friendly manner.
- Abides by all Island Market procedures and safety standards.
- Performs any and all other assigned tasks.

Job Qualifications / Required Skills / Key Competencies
- Experience in a deli, kitchen, food prep, or similar environment preferred
- Ability to follow recipes accurately and consistently
- Ability to calculate discounts, percentages, and accurately weigh and price items
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Self-starter who manages time wisely and works well independently or as part of a team
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ensures compliance with food safety, sanitation, health department, and company safety standards.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Washington State Food Worker Card.
- Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written) with coworkers, customers, and supervisors
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
· Regularly stands and walks for up to 8 hours per shift.
· Frequently required to bend, reach, twist, stoop, kneel, and perform repetitive hand and wrist movements.
· Frequently performs repetitive grasping, gripping, pinching, cutting, slicing, and fine motor tasks using hands and fingers.
· Frequently lifts and carries up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
· Regularly uses knives, slicers, and other food preparation equipment.
· Works in varying temperature conditions, including refrigerated coolers, freezers, and heated food preparation areas.
· Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes, grease, and moderate noise levels.
· Regularly exposed to water, cleaning chemicals, and hot water while washing dishes and equipment.
· Must possess sufficient manual dexterity and visual acuity to safely prepare food, read labels, and perform cleaning and sanitation tasks.
· Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment while maintaining food safety and sanitation standards.
This position is eligible for Prime Time Pay. Prime Time Pay provides an additional $3/hour above the base rate for all hours worked Saturdays and Sundays and hours worked Monday through Friday between 6:00 pm and 3:00 am.
