TOP 5 ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF A WB PIPE WELDER:

  1. Reading, analyzing and building piping systems from construction or fabrication drawings
  2. Certified to weld carbon and stainless steel pipe and tubing components in the 6G position
  3. Understands proper argon purge rates and confirms acceptable tolerance prior to welding stainless steel
  4. Understands proper welding machine settings and how to adjust them
  5. Takes extreme pride in quality of work

Education and/or Experience

  1. High School Diploma or GED - Required
  2. Three years welding experience – Required (can include welding time from school)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  1. Completing assigned work tasks and processes in work teams
  2. Measuring, cutting, preparing and welding metal with precision
  3. Communicating/reporting with foremen and team members
  4. Implementing site safety and work-task plans
  5. Recognizing and correcting job site hazards
  6. Knowledge of welding machines and tools, including their design, uses, and maintenance.
  7. Ability to solve problems pertaining to welding functions.
  8. Ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to independently perform work tasks.
  9. Ability to keep hand and arm steady while moving the arm or while holding the hand in one position.
  10. Ability to adjust the controls of a welding machine.
  11. Ability to quickly move the hand, the hand together with the arm, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  12. Ability to make precise coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.

Working Conditions

  1. Working indoors in a non-conditioned space
  2. Working outdoors exposed to temperature & weather conditions.
  3. Exposure to moderate and high noise levels
  4. Lifting, carrying or moving up to 50 pounds
  5. Wearing all PPE when on any project site (e.g., Steel toed boots, Hard hat, Safety glasses, gloves, earplugs, etc.)
  6. Working 40 to 60 hours per week
  7. Heights and depths - frequently

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  1. Valid driver’s license – required
  2. OSHA-10 Hour Certification – required; training provided by Wayne Brothers
  3. Welding certification – ability to pass AWS welding test administered by Wayne Brothers
  4. Aerial lift and forklift certification – Required; training provided by Wayne Brothers

Physical Demands

  1. Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
  2. Frequent lifting, bending, kneeling, and reaching
  3. Reaching above shoulder
  4. Standing for long periods of time
  5. Handling and installing welded materials
  6. Considerable use of your arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
