  1. 3–4+ years of pipe welding experience in a large fabrication shop or working with large clients
  2. Ability to TIG weld stainless steel
  3. Some experience with stick welding
  4. Experience stick welding pipe efficiently and at a good production pace
  5. Ability to pass a Wayne Brothers pipe weld test (TIG, stick, or both)
  6. Candidate should live within 30-45 minutes of our shop in Davidson, NC

POSITION SUMMARY

The Welder must work safely and productively on various sized Industrial Construction project sites. A successful candidate in this role must be highly motivated, with a positive attitude, and willing to complete any task assigned with limited supervision, along with performing the essential duties of the Welder position. All employees are expected to communicate, build relationships with other team members, and always use good judgment. The Welder is expected to have the ability to perform all duties of the positions preceding it in its specific career path, while being responsible and accountable to complete any other tasks assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Performs all essential job functions of a Welder as well as supporting coworkers.
  2. Operates safety equipment and uses safe work habits while performing his job function.
  3. Must be able to weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions, in a shop as well as an Industrial environment.
  4. Must be able to operate acetylene torch, needed power tools and operate welding machines without assistance or direction.
  5. Must be able to detect faulty equipment and or defective materials and notify supervisors.
  6. Clamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, grinds, or bolts component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding with limited supervision.
  7. Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as stick welding and mig welding.
  8. Monitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts of warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of materials.
  9. Examines work pieces for defects and measures work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications during the welding process.
  10. Recognizes, set ups, and operates hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
  11. Will lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, rulers, and tape measure.
  12. Is responsible for managing how much time he uses on a project and the time of others that might be in his crew.
  13. Is responsible for routine maintenance inspection of equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  14. Conveys information effectively so that the job can be completed in the manner and time it should be.
  15. Observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources before starting a project.
  16. Must use controlled mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes not including computers or vehicles.
  17. Measures, cuts, splices, fastens, and/or welds Structural steel beams, angle, plate, flat bar, or other support material and places it according to drawings and specifications.
  18. Fits and fabricates Structural steel weldments and completes fitting and fabrication activities including welding, cutting, grinding, drilling, reaming, boring.
  19. Performs field welds as designated on construction blueprints
  20. AWS D1.1 Welding Certification test will be required.
  21. Must be able to travel at times with no distractions or impact of project.
  22. Observes all OSHA / Company safety rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  23. Reports any job site and/or WB employee related safety violation(s) to appropriate supervisory personnel.
  24. Serves as a safe and productive member of a construction crew/team with a positive attitude.
  25. Performs all assigned tasks, responsibilities, and related work processes in the safest possible manner, always ensuring that a safe, accident/incident-free work environment is maintained for all coworkers, clients, suppliers, etc. at all times.

Education and/or Experience

  1. High School Diploma or GED - preferred
  2. Apprenticeship - preferred
  3. Five years welding experience - required
  4. Experience with rigging is helpful.

  1. Completing assigned work tasks and processes in work teams

  11. Ability to use mathematics to solve problems pertaining to welding functions.
  12. Ability to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to independently perform work tasks.
  13. Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  14. Able to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  15. Ability to keep hand and arm steady while moving the arm or while holding the hand in one position.
  16. Ability to adjust the controls of a welding machine.
  17. Ability to quickly move the hand, the hand together with the arm, or two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  18. Ability to make precise coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  19. Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  20. Able to concentrate on a task over without being distracted.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  1. Valid driver’s license – required
  2. OSHA-10 Hour Certification – required; training provided by Wayne Brothers
  3. Welding certification – ability to pass AWS welding test for structural welding in stick, mig.
  4. Aerial lift certification – required or ability to be certified

Physical Demands

  1. Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds
  2. Frequent lifting, bending, kneeling, and reaching
  3. Reaching above shoulder
  4. Standing for long periods of time
  5. Handling and installing welded materials
  6. Considerable use of your arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
