QC Manager *CWI required* in Lynchburg, Virginia at Banker Steel Company LLC

• Understanding of welding inspection and structural steel, (Certified Welding Inspector required).
• Knowledgeable in drawings, codes, and standards.
• Familiarity with visual and dimensional inspections of structural steel.
• Knowledge of GMAW and FCAW welding process with at least 10 years of field/shop experience .
• Knowledge and understanding of Windows based computer systems such as Microsoft Office, with an ability to learn another computer-based system.
• Certification or experience with Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Magnetic Particle (MT) Inspection (Preferred).
• Certification or experience with Blasting and Coating Inspection (Preferred).
• Prior five (5) years managerial experience.
• OSHA 10 certification

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Interpret structural drawings, codes, and standards.
• Perform dimensional and visual weld inspections and other job-related duties as assigned.
• Document inspections and examinations via the use of computers and barcode scanners.
• Assisting in review of upcoming projects by representing the Quality dept. in aspects of inspection and certification including NDE and coatings application to plan, coordinate, communicate project requirements to various department heads and inspection personnel.
• Reviewing of personnel certification and training needs to insure adequate staffing levels for all required inspection functions per contract and Quality Plan requirements.
• Planning, coordinating, and administering training as required to maintain personnel and facility certifications as required to meet project commitments.
• Overseeing and advising Management on technical issues, personnel, inspections, product quality, and non-conformance issues.
• Managing the work schedule for all QC employees to ensure proper quality coverage for the fabrication plants.
• Recommending equipment, systems and process ideas that support continuous improvements regarding safety and Quality to assist all depts. in achieving and maintaining the company’s quality goals.
• Recommends disciplinary action to Plant Manager, General Manager, HR, or other designee.
• Approves/denies requests for time off.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to constantly work in various indoor conditions including hot and cold temperatures, dust and noisy conditions.
• Must be able to lift a maximum weight up to 20 lbs. frequently; 50 lbs. occasionally.
• Must be able to carry a maximum weight up to 20 lbs. frequently; 50 lbs. occasionally.
• Frequent standing, walking, reaching forward, balancing, feeling, object handling, simple hand grasping, firm hand grasping, and operating controls will be required.
• Regular sitting, climbing stairs and ladders, reaching overhead, stooping, and crouching will be required.
• Must be able to properly wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
