Job Description

Jefferson Community Health & Life is looking for someone to work full-time as the Landscape & Grounds Specialist.

Hours: Full-time 40 hours per week. 7:00am - 3:30pm

POSITION SUMMARY

The Landscape & Grounds Specialist is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and visually appealing outdoor environment across Jefferson Community Health & Life’s hospital, long-term care, and assisted living campus. This position plays a key role in enhancing the patient and resident experience through the care and upkeep of landscaping, lawns, and courtyards, ensuring outdoor spaces are welcoming, therapeutic, and accessible.

QUALIFICATIONS

* High school diploma or equivalent

* Current valid driver's license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)

* Experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or maintenance preferred.

* Experience in healthcare, long-term care, or residential environments is a plus.

* Obtain a non-commercial pesticide applicator license within one year.

* Knowledge of landscaping techniques, plant care, and seasonal maintenance.

* Ability to safely operate groundskeeping and snow removal equipment.

* Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks across a multi-building campus.

* Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean, attractive environment.

* Ability to interact respectfully with residents, patients, visitors, and staff.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Maintain all exterior grounds, including lawns, sidewalks, parking lots, entrances, and outdoor common areas
Mow, edge, and trim areas using riding and push mowers
Plant, water, weed, fertilize, and maintain flowers, shrubs, trees, and decorative landscaping
Develop and maintain seasonal landscaping, including flower beds, planters, and mulch areas
Prune and trim landscaping to maintain appearance and plant health
Monitor plant health and identify watering, pest, or disease issues
Applies fertilizers and approved lawn and plant treatments in accordance with safety guidelines and manufacturer instructions
Identifies need for herbicide or pesticide applications and coordinates treatment, either directly or through licensed vendors
Ensures all applications are performed in a manner that is safe for patients, residents, and visitors, with appropriate notification and restricted access as needed
Maintain courtyards and outdoor living spaces for long-term care and assisted living residents
Ensure outdoor spaces are clean, safe, accessible, and visually appealing
Maintain walkways, seating areas, and outdoor features
Work in a respectful, quiet, and patient-centered manner in areas occupied by residents and patients
Assist with setup and cleanup for outdoor activities and events as needed
Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, entrances, and priority areas using snow scoop, snow blower, or 4-wheeler
Apply ice melt to ensure safe walking surfaces
Perform seasonal cleanup, planting, mulching, and winterization of landscaping
Prioritize snow removal and grounds maintenance in the following order: hospital entrances, long-term care and assisted living entrances, then secondary areas and courtyards
Monitor and maintain irrigation systems and watering schedules
Adjust watering based on seasonal and weather conditions
Identify and report issues with landscaping systems
Operate and maintain groundskeeping and snow removal equipment safely
Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on building and grounds equipment
Analyze repair needs, follow safety procedures, and initiate or complete repairs as appropriate
Order parts and supplies with approval
Respond to work orders and requests in a timely manner
Complete assigned tasks efficiently with minimal need for rework
Participate in preventative maintenance activities and scheduled inspections
Work with outside vendors and contractors to ensure successful project completion
Maintain safe walking and driving surfaces, with special attention to elderly and mobility-limited residents
Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE)
