About This Position
Maintains and repairs park and median properties.
Operates heavy equipment such as loaders, dump trucks, bucket trucks, and other maintenance equipment.
Completes work orders as required and assigned.
Cross-trains and works in other divisions as needed.
May apply chemicals and natural treatments to control plant diseases.
May be required to work outside normal hours during emergencies, such as strong storms, tornadoes, and hurricanes.
May be scheduled for on-call duty.
Performs related tasks as required.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Two years of applicable experience and an Ornamental and Turf Restricted Use Pesticide License (through the Florida Department of Agriculture) are necessary.
- Ability to acquire an appropriate commercial driver's license valid in the State of Florida.
- Ability to obtain first aid and CPR certifications.
Emergency Response Status: As a condition of employment, City of St. Pete Beach employees may be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description. This is a condition of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Some knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.
- Ability to understand and follow oral instructions and to perform tasks requiring physical strength and endurance.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and some field equipment.
- Ability to operate trucks, mowers, and some heavy equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
This is heavy work requiring the exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally (with assistance or tools).
Up to 50 pounds of force frequently.
Up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions.
Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas verbally.
Hearing is necessary to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, and visual inspections involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm’s length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.
