We're building North America’s largest electric vehicle fleet to help bring sustainability to an industry notorious for its heavy impact on the environment. We are in high growth mode and building for the future, which is where you come in!
GoBolt operates 10 warehouses across Canada and the US, with our entire HR team currently based in Canada. As our US footprint grows, we are hiring an HR Business Partner to own the people function across our US warehouse network, including our two largest sites in California and New Jersey.
Reporting to the HR Director (Canada), you will be the strategic and tactical partner for all US employees and leaders. You will bridge the geographic and time-zone gap, ensuring deep accountability for multi-state employment law and warehouse-floor employee relations, with a heavy focus on California-specific compliance.
What You'll Own:Strategic HR Partnership:
- Serve as the senior HR partner to all US site leaders, providing day-to-day coaching and strategic guidance.
- Translate business priorities into US-specific people strategies involving workforce planning, retention, and engagement.
- Partner with the HR Director to align US and Canadian people programs while respecting jurisdictional differences.
- Partner directly with US site Operations leaders to drive engagement, retention, and safety culture.
Compliance & Employment Law:
- Own US multi-state employment law compliance, specifically for New Jersey, California, and additional states as we scale.
- Maintain hands-on accountability for California-specific exposure, including PAGA risk management, meal/rest break enforcement, and wage statement accuracy.
- Administer leave laws (CFRA, PDL, paid sick leave) and partner with Cal/OSHA.
- Maintain the US employee handbook, state-specific addenda, and overall HR policies.
Employee Relations & Investigations:
- Lead workplace investigations across US sites with documentation that meets legal defensibility standards.
- Coach managers on performance management, corrective action, and termination decisions.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for sensitive ER matters across the US footprint.
HR Operations:
- Partner with Payroll, Benefits, and the Insurance Specialist on US-specific programs including medical, 401(k), workers' comp, and unemployment.
- Own the US onboarding and offboarding experience, ensuring I-9 compliance and state-specific notice requirements.
- Collaborate with the Manager, Health & Safety on US safety programs, incident investigations, and workers' comp claims.
- Support talent acquisition on US hiring, offer processes, and compensation benchmarking.
- 4-5 years of progressive HR experience, with 2+ years in an HR Business Partner or HR Manager capacity.
- Hands-on experience actively managing a California workforce (not just remote support).
- Demonstrated PAGA awareness and wage-and-hour expertise.
- Multi-state US employment law expertise (CA + NJ at minimum).
- Experience supporting a warehouse, distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or 3PL environment.
- Strong track record of running workplace investigations independently.
- Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously across multiple sites and time zones.
- SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, or PHR certification.
- Bilingual English / Spanish.
- Experience supporting a Canada-US dual-country organization.
- Experience using Rippling (HRIS).
Location: New Jersey - Onsite (Occasional travel to California sites and other US warehouses).
Salary Range: $100k - $125k
