Job Description:
This temporary position is eligible for remote work and is limited to a maximum duration of 18 months.

As a Digital Accessibility Specialist, you will work closely with the Web Team in the Public Communications Department to enhance the usability and accessibility of digital content and services. In this role, you will help ensure compliance with accessibility standards while supporting staff and departments in creating inclusive digital experiences for all users.

Typical Tasks
  • Reviews websites, applications, and digital content to ensure compliance with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 508 standards.
  • Conducts accessibility testing using industry-standard evaluation tools and provides detailed findings and recommendations to the Web Team.
  • Provides remediation support for frequently used and high-visibility digital documents on the City’s website, including PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, and other web-based materials.
  • Assists with the delivery of accessibility training for staff in coordination with the Web Team, promoting best practices across the organization.
  • Collaborates with departments to remediate digital documents and ensure content meets accessibility requirements.
  • Offers guidance and subject matter expertise on accessible design principles, usability, and inclusive content development.
  • Supports the Web Team in integrating accessibility standards into digital projects, workflows, and ongoing initiatives.
  • Monitors existing web content to ensure continued accuracy, relevance, and accessibility compliance.
  • Participates in departmental initiatives and cross-functional projects related to digital accessibility and user experience.
  • Attends internal meetings as assigned, providing insight and recommendations on accessibility standards, compliance, and implementation strategies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate’s degree in web design, writing, graphic arts, or a closely related field. Knowledge of current best practices in online content and service development preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.1, Level AA, Section 508, and digital accessibility principles
  • Experience with accessibility testing tools and assistive technologies
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
  • Experience with accessible document creation and remediation
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Pro 2025, PAC 2024, Equidox, and other web accessibility evaluation tools
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS, prior training or instructional experience, or accessibility-related certification
