Job Title: Career and Technical Education (CTE) HVAC Instructor

Supervisor Job Title: Principal

Essential Functions

A Career and Technical Education (CTE) HVAC Instructor teaches scholars to install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. They develop curriculum, provide hands-on training for industry certifications, and teach troubleshooting skills to prepare students for careers in the HVACR industry.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Deliver classroom and hands-on laboratory instruction regarding HVAC systems, electrical circuits, and safety standards
  • Plan lesson plans that cover heating (gas/oil), cooling, ventilation, and "green" energy-efficient technologies.
  • Teach scholars to use diagnostic tools, troubleshoot malfunctions, and repair components like motors, compressors, and thermostats.
  • Prepare scholars to earn industry-valued credentials, such as EPA 608 Refrigeration certification or HVAC Excellence certifications.
  • Train scholars on proper handling of refrigerants, EPA regulations, and OSHA safety standards.
  • Evaluate scholars performance through tests, practical projects, and skills assessments to monitor progress

Requirement/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and teaching certification or extensive industry experience,
  • Previous work experience as an HVAC technician (often 2–5+ years)
  • EPA Section 608 Certification or NATE certifications are highly desired.
  • Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, electrical wiring, and, in some cases, commercial refrigeration
  • Patience, effective communication, and the ability to use educational technology
  • Multi-faceted, multi-skilled, resourceful, and willing to do whatever it takes to help our scholars reach a level of academic excellence
  • Model positive and healthy character traits and habits, such as being organized, consistent and understanding
  • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to the Universal’s mission and willingness to serve the Universal community

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the building sub is regularly required to:

  • Speak, stand, talk, walk, see, hear and, sometimes, to sit.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to read small print.
  • Frequently bend, reach above the head, as well as forward, and use fine motor skills.
