Under the direction of the Cat Scan Supervisor, performs a variety of duties involving patient care coordination, data collection, compiling reports, facilitating case review meetings, and providing clerical support services. The Lung Cancer Screening Coordinator works with referring physician offices and clinics to manage follow-up imaging tests and other appointments/tests/procedures as necessary. The Lung Cancer Screening Coordinator manages all aspects of the CT Lung Cancer Screening database including data entry, statistical reporting, and enhancements.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Communicates with referring physicians regarding patient appropriateness for program and coordinates information with referral services.
  • Directs patients through the screening, enrollment, and appointment process.
  • Review insurance authorization information for exams as needed.
  • Coordinates with Patient Financial Services.
  • Perform patient scheduling/rescheduling as needed in the EMR.
  • Performs patient follow up management for patients already enrolled uses database to ensure appropriate follow up appointments are scheduled and kept as recommended.
  • Establishes processes and standards that ensure consistent patient scheduling including follow up diagnostic imaging exams.
  • Maintains accurate patient data (records, logs, charges, files, and other related information).
  • Responsible for Database Management – manage all aspects of the CT Lung Screening database including inputting patient screening data, patient letters, patient status, data entry input of all patient management activities, statistical reporting. Works closely with Radiology IT with database design, enhancement, and maintenance. Is responsible for reporting database maintenance issues to Radiology IT for resolution
  • Schedules appointments, diagnostic studies, and provides follow-up and confirmation calls.
  • Prepare documentation for the Pulmonary Nodule Board meetings and send agenda/minutes to committee members in a timely manner.
  • Prepares weekly program statistics. Provide updates on program activity, statistical information, and recommendations for program enhancements.

1. High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

1. Certified Medical Assistant

Experience/Skills:

Required:

1. 3-5 years previous customer service experience in a healthcare setting
2. Experience in Pulmonary Medicine, Oncology or Diagnostic Imaging a must.
3. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
4. Comprehensive knowledge of inventory control.
5. Good communication skills.
6. Strong organizational skills
7. Knowledge of computer systems, Microsoft office- Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
8. Analytical and computational ability.
9. Ability to read, write and speak clearly in English.
10. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to communicate effectively with a variety of levels including patients, hospital, and medical staff.
11. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
12. Medical terminology.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
