Job Description
Buyers perform purchasing and material support activities necessary to support manufacturing operations. This position purchases materials, components, and supplies primarily from approved or established suppliers and within established purchasing procedures, specifications, inventory requirements, and authorization levels.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and communicate supply chain risks, including supplier capacity, lead times, availability and continuity of supply
- Build long-term, collaborative relationships with preferred suppliers
- Procure customized items
- Evaluate supplier quotes and services
- Evaluate supplier performance
- Assist with supplier research and sourcing activities for new or difficult-to-source items
- Identify potential cost-savings opportunities and gather supporting purchasing information
- Evaluate forecasts, demand, lead times, usage and inventory data to maintain desired inventory levels
- Prepare, issue, and maintain purchase orders for timely delivery
- Execute inventory replenishment requests
- Monitor open purchase orders and proactively address past-due shortage, and maintain factory shortage report
- Assist in the investigation of non-conforming materials and take corrective action
- Assist in the reconciliation of receiving/invoicing/billing discrepancies
- Coordinate the return of non-conforming material
- Maintain procurement records, including ERP/MRP data and notations
- Other buyer duties as assigned
Skills:
- Basic working knowledge of purchasing, inventory control, and material planning concepts and procedures
- Working knowledge of ERP/MRP purchasing and inventory systems
- Ability to read and understand basic engineering drawings, specifications, bill of material applicable to the assigned purchases
- Effective negotiation and customer service skills
- Ability to review purchasing, inventory, supplier and material status reports and identify discrepancies or issues
- Ability to obtain and compare supplier pricing and communicate effectively with suppliers
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work professionally in team environment and with other departmental teams
- Ability to manage assigned priorities and deadlines
- Ability to work independently on routine purchasing activities while seeking guidance on non-routine, complex, or higher risk matters
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- High ethical standards
- High attention to detail
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of purchasing, material, inventory supply-chain or related manufacturing preferred experience in an MRP environment required
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain management, or related field is a plus
- Experience in motion control industrial purchasing preferred
Job Detail:
- Full-time, salary exempt position with full benefits
- Salary DOE
- Onsite position
- Day Shift - Monday through Friday 7:00AM-3:30PM
Essential Functions:
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required
- Sitting for long periods of time
- Ability to perform computer-based work and other office functions for extended periods. Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 10 pounds
- Ability to access the manufacturing floor and/or stockroom as needed
