Job Description
Job Summary:
The RN will begin the implementation of the nursing process as delegated by the Physician/NP/PA but not limited to patient care documentation, direct observation, and patient process outcomes. The RN will work with multiple type specialists to provide patient care. The RN performs to achieve quality patient care and job performance to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved within the projected course of treatment. The RN demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development, possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs. The RN assists with clinical operations to include education and clerical responsibilities. The RN shall implement the nursing process in an organized, systematic manner to include assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in collaboration with the Patient Care Coordinator as evidenced by documentation in Patient Care Record. The RN must demonstrate initiative and be able to prioritize patient care in a way that creates optimal flow of the clinic. The RN is accountable to the Trauma Program Manager. The RN will perform other job duties as assigned.
Performance Expectations:
Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation and preceptor phases of your orientation to your job.
- Demonstrates the aptitude to perform patient assessment, monitor vital signs, assist providers with various procedures, and administer medications in the Trauma/Acute Care Surgery, Orthopedic Trauma, and Neurosurgical Trauma Clinic.
- Demonstrates the aptitude to effectively handle patient telephone calls, prior-authorizations, patient paperwork, and communicates efficiently with providers and other departments regarding patient care
- Demonstrates the aptitude to manage and collect data for patient care
- Demonstrates the ability to perform daily equipment checks
- Maintain knowledge of departmental and hospital policies
- Demonstrates the ability to locate the hospital’s Document Control Matrix and assure that departmental form inventory is current.
- Demonstrates the ability to apply and remove orthopedic casts.
- Demonstrates the ability to apply orthopedic splints and other orthopedic devices.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform assessment of circulation, motor, and sensation following placement orthopedic casts, splints, and devices.
- Cleans and disinfects exam tables and equipment as directed in hospital policy.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to perform insurance pre-certification
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to complete paperwork; disability, FMLA, VA forms, etc.
- Demonstrates the ability to assist with a variety of procedures, exams and/or operations of diagnostic equipment.
- Demonstrates the appropriate aseptic technique for preparation, procedures, and medications administered.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Graduate of a recognized non-online accredited RN program required.
Work Experience:
Experience in a primary care, urgent care, or specialty clinic preferred but not required.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
- Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS
Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below
- Basic Life Support

Must enjoy people and desire to assist doctors/nurse practitioners, physician assistants, patients, fellow employees and staff. Must exercise a high degree of tact, poise, and patience. Necessary to understand medical terminology and apply as it relates to the admission and documentation of the patient’s medical visit. Clerical ability is required to avoid errors when completing medical documents. Ability to perform as a team member, cooperates with others, follow directions precisely, demonstrate initiative, and function under stress.
