Summary/Objective

The Shipping & Receiving Clerk is responsible for the accurate receipt, storage, movement, and shipment of materials throughout the facility. This position plays a key role in supporting production by maintaining inventory accuracy, operating material handling equipment safely, and ensuring customer orders are prepared and shipped on time.

This is a hands-on position requiring strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and extensive forklift operating experience in a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, be comfortable working with manufacturing equipment and materials, and be willing to cross-train and assist with production operations as business needs require.

Essential Functions

  • Receive incoming materials and verify quantities against purchase orders and packing slips.
  • Unload and load trucks safely using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Move raw materials, finished goods, and work-in-process throughout the facility.
  • Pick, stage, package, and prepare customer orders for shipment.
  • Perform shipping transactions using ERP and shipping software.
  • Maintain accurate inventory through cycle counts and inventory transactions.
  • Inspect incoming shipments for damage or discrepancies and report issues promptly.
  • Maintain warehouse organization and material locations.
  • Follow FIFO inventory practices where applicable.
  • Operate forklifts safely while following all company safety policies.
  • Assist production personnel with material requests.
  • Cross-train in production processes and provide support on the manufacturing floor as needed.
  • Operate production equipment safely after receiving appropriate training.
  • Assist with assembly, packaging, material preparation, or other production activities as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse and production work environment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in shipping, receiving, and manufacturing operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

This role is based in Bedford, IN and requires work in both the shipping and receiving area and the manufacturing production floor. The position involves frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and operating forklifts and other material handling equipment. Employees are required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all company safety procedures while working in warehouse and production environments.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

Core working hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a minimum of 40 hours per week. Evening and weekend work may be required based on business needs.

Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of forklift operating experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to learn manufacturing equipment and production processes.
  • Ability to accurately receive, store, move, and ship materials while maintaining inventory accuracy.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to use ERP, inventory, and shipping software.
  • Ability to read and understand shipping documents, packing slips, work orders, and inventory records.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to cross-train and support production operations as business needs require.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing, walking, bending, and frequent forklift operation.
  • Commitment to following all company safety policies and procedures.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Previous shipping and receiving experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with inventory control, cycle counting, and FIFO inventory practices.
  • Experience using ERP systems and shipping software.
  • Experience supporting production or manufacturing operations.
  • Forklift certification (or the ability to obtain certification if required by company policy).
