Melmark is a nonprofit organization providing clinically-sophisticated evidence-based special education, residential, vocational, and therapeutic services for children and adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, developmental and intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries, medical complexities, and other neurological and genetic disorders.
Coordinator of Vocational Services Overview
The Coordinator of Vocational Services is responsible for the total operation of vocational services under the direction of the Director of Educational Services. This position designs the program in the placement of students in vocational training and supported employment opportunities. The Coordinator of Vocational Services is responsible for curriculum design, development, and implementation.
Melmark serves children, adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorders, intellectual disabilities and similar diagnoses who may exhibit severe challenging behaviors. The Coordinator of Vocational Services position requires that staff be aware that students who are served may exhibit aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior. The Coordinator of Vocational Services is expected to implement highly technical clinical and educational programs that require them to be constantly alert, attentive and ready to respond to student’s needs.
Schedule and Salary Information
- Monday- Friday 8am-4:30pm
- Full on-site
- Salary Information:
- Level 1 teacher cert with bachelors degree: $61,360.00 (+) based on years of experience
- Level 1 teacher with masters degree: $65, 520.00 (+) based on years of experience
- Level 2 teacher cert or masters degree plus BCBA: $71,760.00 (+) based on years of experience
Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related services field required.
- Equivalency in special skills and training in vocational rehabilitation with Pennsylvania Teaching certification.
- Strong teaching skills with emphasis on students who are emotionally, behaviorally, physically and/or developmentally challenged. Experience with vocational skill development and community placement of individuals and with the principles and application of Applied Behavior Analysis. Strong interpersonal skills are required.
- One (1) to two (2) years of experience in an educational setting, preferably with individuals with developmental disabilities who exhibit challenging behaviors. Experience with vocational skill development in applied settings.
Coordinator of Vocational Services Responsibilities
- Effectively develops, expands, and manages all community relationships for vocational opportunities.
- Effectively completes employment contacts within the community.
- Conducts initial site visits, develops employment or internship opportunities, continues on-going community site visits.
- Demonstrates initiative in developing vocational department prospects.
- Creates and adheres to vocational schedule as designed. Informs classrooms of schedule prior to each week.
- Assists in vocational goal planning via gathering baseline data collection, summarizing and presenting in preparation for IEP planning meetings and IEP meetings.
- Creates vocational goals and objectives based on student strengths, preferences and input in addition to assessment data.
- Follows all Melmark systems including BSP implementation and data collection procedures.
- Works with Curriculum Coordinators and Teachers to complete appropriate Lesson Plans prior to IEP meeting.
- Ensures that accurately summed and written Quarterly Progress reports for all vocational goals are submitted within established timeframes.
- Assists with transition planning as needed, including attending IEP meetings for students once they reach transition age (14).
- Provides daily in classroom support by providing needed vocational support for students both inside and outside of the school building.
