Description:

The Youth Group Leader is assigned to an elementary or middle school age classroom of 11 to 15 children. The Group Leader provides activities in three focus areas: Creative and Performing Arts, Athletics and Health or STEM. This role requires a passion for working with youth, strong mentoring skills, and the ability to implement developmentally appropriate programs.

Primary Responsibilities/ Tasks:

  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for youth entering the Teen Center, establishing rapport, and building positive relationships.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of daily activities for the OST program.
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to youth, encouraging their active participation..
  • Engage youth with interactive program activities that promote positive youth development, personal growth and increase their motivation to read and deliver structured literacy-inspired and fun programing related to Arts, Athletics/Health and STEM.
  • Conduct activities for youth to identify strengths and interests and related careers, with special attention to the variety of careers in creative economy, sports industry, STEM.
  • Plan and facilitate group discussions, workshops, and educational sessions aligned with the 40 Developmental Assets framework.
  • Utilize the Ready Set Work curriculum to enhance youths' employability skills and promote career exploration.
  • Implement the Positive Action curriculum to foster social and emotional learning, character development, and resilience among youth.
  • Foster a safe and inclusive environment that encourages active participation and builds a sense of belonging.
  • Develop positive and trusting relationships with youth, serving as a mentor and role model.
  • Provide guidance, encouragement, and support to help youth navigate challenges, set goals, and make positive choices.
  • Maintain accurate records of program attendance, activities, and participant progress.
  • Attend training sessions, workshops, and professional development opportunities to enhance mentoring skills and stay updated on best practices.
  • Assist in cleaning and disinfecting classrooms areas as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma. Associate degree preferred from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education, or the human services field.
  • Must have three years of experience with children.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect and engage with diverse youth populations.
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills to establish rapport and build trust.
  • Ability to implement and adapt programming to meet the developmental needs of youth
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the program schedule.
  • Must have high proficiency with computer software, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Current PA state Criminal Clearance, DHS Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint, Health Assessment with Mantoux TB Shot, National Sex Offenders Registration Clearance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational Skills
  • Data Entry
  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)
  • Must be able to work independently, be reliable and organized.
  • Possess or ability to secure PA Drivers License and insurance (preferred).
