The Managing Engineer leads a team of software engineers while serving as a senior technical authority responsible for building scalable, resilient, and reusable engineering solutions. This role requires a balance of people leadership, architecture ownership, hands-on development, and cross-functional influence to establish strong engineering practices across the organization.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers, fostering technical growth and strong engineering practices.
- Design and deliver reference applications, architecture patterns, and reusable implementation frameworks.
- Drive technical decisions related to software architecture, system design, and engineering standards.
- Partner with product, platform, infrastructure, and application teams to solve complex technical challenges.
- Build and promote cloud-native solutions using modern development practices and enterprise technologies.
- Develop implementation patterns for integrations involving services, caching, messaging, networking, identity, and observability.
- Participate in coding, prototyping, troubleshooting, and technical reviews when needed.
- Champion adoption of scalable, secure, resilient, and maintainable engineering practices.
- Manage team priorities, staffing needs, delivery planning, and performance objectives.
- Influence enterprise engineering standards and improve developer experience through reusable solutions.
The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineering leader with strong expertise in distributed systems, cloud technologies, and modern application development. Success in this role requires technical depth, leadership capability, and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams to deliver enterprise-grade solutions.
- 7+ years of experience building enterprise-scale software applications and services.
- 2+ years of experience in technical leadership, engineering management, or people management roles.
- Strong proficiency in Java and experience developing distributed applications and services.
- Experience designing and deploying cloud-native applications on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Hands-on experience with container technologies and Kubernetes-based environments.
- Strong understanding of APIs, microservices architecture, and service integration patterns.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, messaging platforms, or asynchronous processing systems.
- Knowledge of distributed systems concepts, including scalability, fault tolerance, reliability, and performance optimization.
- Experience leading cross-functional technical initiatives and influencing engineering decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
- Experience with enterprise reference architectures, reusable frameworks, or implementation patterns is preferred.
- Familiarity with Kafka, observability tools, caching technologies such as Redis, NoSQL databases, and modern data platforms is a plus.
- Experience with Python, Node.js, JavaScript, React, or other programming languages is beneficial.
- Background working in regulated or large-scale enterprise environments is preferred.
- Experience managing geographically distributed engineering teams is an advantage.
- Competitive annual compensation range of $120,000 – $193,725, based on experience, qualifications, and location.
