Movement and Wellness Specialist

Hourly Salary: $50,232/annually

Job Type: Full-Time

Shift: Monday - Friday 8:00am – 4:00pm

Hours per pay period: 80

Job Description:

Are you passionate about promoting movement, wellness, and healthy lifestyles for people of all abilities? We are seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Movement & Wellness Specialist to develop and facilitate engaging wellness activities for adults with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities. In this role, you will help participants increase physical activity, improve functional movement, build healthy habits, and develop greater confidence in their abilities. Through individualized and group-based activities, the Movement & Wellness Specialist will create inclusive opportunities that may focus on mobility, strength, balance, flexibility, coordination, endurance, and overall wellness.

This role goes beyond exercise by making movement enjoyable, accessible, and meaningful while supporting each participant’s abilities, interests, wellness goals, and independence.

Duties Include but not limited to:

  • Develop and facilitate engaging movement and wellness activities that reflect each participant’s abilities, interests, support needs, and personal wellness goals.
  • Lead individual and small-group wellness sessions that encourage participation, physical activity, confidence, and healthy routines in a safe and supportive setting.
  • Modify activities, movements, equipment, and level of support to promote accessibility and meaningful participation for people with varying physical, intellectual, and developmental abilities.
  • Observe and document participant engagement and progress toward individualized movement and wellness goals, including improvements in mobility, strength, balance, flexibility, endurance, and participation.
  • Recognize and reinforce individual achievements and progress, helping participants build confidence and motivation to remain active.
  • Work collaboratively with direct support professionals, program staff, families, caregivers, and other members of the participant’s support team, as appropriate, to promote consistency with wellness goals.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and encouraging environment where participants feel comfortable exploring movement, developing new skills, and working toward greater independence.
  • Promote wellness through activities that incorporate movement, recreation, healthy lifestyle choices, and opportunities for active community participation.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation related to wellness activities, participant involvement, progress, and program outcomes.
  • Assist with the development of new wellness initiatives, group activities, challenges, and events that encourage participants to remain active and engaged.

Qualifications:

  • Background in movement/therapies with minimum 6 month experience
  • Certified Adaptive Personal Trainer (or must be obtained within 3 months of hiring)
  • Experience in personal and group sessions (at least 1 year)
  • Perform physical activities such as: lifting, pushing and pulling
  • Experience working with people with disabilities is preferred
  • Demonstrate sound time management and dependability
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Knowledge of adaptive fitness techniques
  • Experience working with people with developmental disabilities
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • A genuine passion for helping others succeed
