Role Overview
The Wet Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for leading the field execution of wet mechanical systems on a large-scale data center project. This role oversees daily construction activities, subcontractor coordination, safety, quality, schedule adherence, and system turnover for process utility and plant infrastructure systems.
Primary systems include process piping, hydronic systems, Ultra-Pure Water (UPW), Process Cooling Water (PCW), Condenser Water (CW), Compressed Dry Air (CDA), and associated plant utility infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily field execution of wet mechanical construction activities from installation through system turnover.
- Supervise and coordinate subcontractors, craft labor, and vendors performing wet mechanical work.
- Develop and execute installation sequencing, work plans, and look-ahead schedules.
- Coordinate equipment setting, piping installation, utility tie-ins, flushing, pressure testing, and turnover activities.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and P&IDs to ensure proper installation and system integration.
- Coordinate with Mechanical, Process, Electrical, Controls/I&C, and Commissioning teams to support overall project objectives.
- Conduct daily field walks and monitor installation progress, manpower, productivity, and work quality.
- Identify field constraints and implement mitigation strategies to maintain schedule commitments.
- Lead safety meetings and promote a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with site specific safety requirements.
- Manage punch list activities and support startup, commissioning, and operational turnover readiness.
- Provide regular updates regarding progress, risks, and recovery plans to project leadership.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience supervising large-scale mechanical construction projects.
- Experience supporting data center, semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, pharmaceutical, cleanroom, or mission-critical facilities preferred.
- Strong understanding of process utility systems, piping systems, and mechanical infrastructure installation.
- Experience managing subcontractors and large field craft teams in complex construction environments.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, P&IDs, and construction schedules.
- Familiarity with system testing, commissioning, and turnover processes.
- Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and other construction management tools.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
