Job Description
About Genex Systems
Genex Systems is a Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) headquartered in Newport News, VA. Founded in 2000 at NASA Langley Research Center, Genex has spent 25+ years delivering scientific research and engineering, information technology, and mission support services across the federal government. Our track record is defined by high quality, cost-effective, and timely performance across numerous contracts, earning exceptional CPARS ratings and commendations.
The wind tunnels, labs, and research utilities at NASA's first field center only work if the power behind them does. As an Electrical Engineer at NASA Langley, you'll design and improve the substations, distribution, controls, and building systems that keep aeronautics, Earth science, and space exploration research running.
About the Work
NASA Langley Research Center covers 764 acres in Hampton, Virginia, with about 3,400 civil servants and contractors working on better aircraft, a better understanding of Earth's atmosphere, and technology for space exploration. Genex Systems is part of the team on the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering II (CMOE II) contract, which keeps that campus running. The work covers engineering design, project management, construction, preventive maintenance, and central utilities across Langley's institutional and research facilities, along with capital projects such as automating labs and wind tunnel test facilities. You'll join the Electrical Engineering team and report to the Electrical Engineering Project Manager.
What You'll Do
- Design power distribution systems, from high-medium-low-voltage substations to utilities and facility service, including relaying and protective device coordination studies
- Design lighting, fire alarm, and communication systems for research and institutional buildings
- Specify and design adjustable/variable speed drives for motors ranging from small to high-horsepower machines
- Support process control and automation work on research facilities, including PLC-based systems
- Prepare engineering analyses, studies, specifications, calculations, and construction cost estimates, all checked against applicable codes
- Present designs at design reviews and provide construction management and field troubleshooting support
- Work across disciplines to define requirements, develop concepts, and keep projects within their resources
- At higher levels: lead complex design efforts and plan, schedule, and coordinate the work of other engineers

- A valid driver's license
Nice to Have (Preferred)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Protective device coordination and power system studies in ETAP
