Job Description

Title: Senior Director of Communications and Marketing
Location: All Stars Project of New York, National Staff
Status: Full Time, Exempt, Hybrid
Reports to: Vice President, Office of the President and CEO
Salary range: $125,000-140,000/annualized

Job Summary

The Senior Director of Communications and Marketing is a senior leadership role of the All Stars Project (ASP) responsible for directing the organization’s national communications and marketing vision, strategy, and execution. The Senior Director serves as a strategic thought partner to executive leadership, shaping how ASP communicates its mission, impact, growth priorities, and institutional voice across internal and external audiences.

This role owns and oversees the development, implementation, measurement, and continuous refinement of integrated communications systems, campaigns, messaging, and brand positioning that advance ASP’s strategic objectives.

The Senior Director leads high-level organizational storytelling, executive communications, media strategy, crisis and reputation communications and external stakeholder communications. This role also helps steward ASP’s public identity and supports communications related to thought leadership, board initiatives, and senior leadership and national visibility.

This position is a hybrid role and requires some in-person attendance in the ASP of New York regional office, as well as occasional travel to ASP regions.

Key Responsibilities

Communications and Strategy (35%)

    Direct ASP’s national communications and marketing strategy in alignment with organizational priorities, growth initiatives and leadership positioning Own the development and refinement of ASP’s institutional messaging architecture, narrative strategy, and brand voice across all platforms and audiences Develop systems and processes to track communications effectiveness, audience engagement, campaign performance, and organizational visibility, using data and insights to continuously refine strategy Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on communications planning, positioning, messaging, and organizational visibility Shape communications strategies that support organizational change initiatives, institutional priorities, and strategic growth Ensure consistency, alignment, and quality control across organizational communications efforts
Executive and Institutional Communications (15%)

    Lead executive communications strategy in partnership with senior leadership team Develop messaging, talking points, speeches, presentations, donor-facing materials, and thought leadership content for organizational leadership Support communications related to Board engagement, governance initiatives, institutional announcements, and leadership transitions Direct organizational communications during sensitive or high-profile situations, including crisis and reputation management communications
Media and External Relations (25%)

    Direct ASP’s national media relations and external visibility strategy in partnership with PR consultants and organizational leadership Identify and cultivate high-value media, speaking, partnership, and thought leadership opportunities that elevate ASP’s national profile Serve as an advisor on public positioning, messaging, and external communications opportunities Build and maintain strategic relationships with media outlets, partners, and communications stakeholders across key markets Guide external messaging strategies tied to campaigns, announcements, partnerships, and institutional priorities
Marketing and Audience Engagement (15%)

    Direct integrated marketing and audience engagement strategies across digital, social, email, and web platforms Lead high-impact campaigns that support national growth priorities Oversee campaign planning, execution, analytics, and optimization to strengthen engagement and organizational reach Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and communications metrics to evaluate effectiveness and inform strategic decision-making
Content and Communications (10%)

    Build, lead, and develop a high-performing communications and marketing function aligned with ASP’s strategic priorities Provide strategic direction, supervision, coaching, and professional development to communications staff and consultants Establish workflows, project management systems, editorial processes, and accountability structures that support high-quality execution across multiple initiatives Oversee external vendors, agencies, freelancers, and communications consultants Foster collaboration and alignment across national and regional teams
Qualifications

    8–10+ years of experience in communications, marketing, or related fieldDemonstrated experience advising senior executives and organizational leaders on communications strategy and public positioningDemonstrated leadership and team management experienceExceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills and presentation development skillsExperience with media relations, digital marketing, and communications strategyStrong strategic judgment and ability to manage sensitive or high-profile communications issuesExperience developing communications metrics, evaluating impact, and using insights to refine strategyStrong leadership, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact and communicate professionally with individuals at all levels of the organizationAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentBachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field required; advanced degree a plus (or equivalent professional experience) requiredExperience supporting donor communications, board-facing materials, and leadership visibility initiatives preferredProficient in Canva, Constant Contact, Airtable, ChatGPT, or other AI platformsCommitment to ASP’s missionFlexibility to attend activities and events outside of regular business hoursTravel required 2 to 3 times a year to ASP’s regional offices around the country
