Job Description
We're seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Laboratory Assistant (Part-Time) to support research investigating the fundamental molecular mechanisms of Ebola and Marburg virus replication and the development of new antivirals. This position combines hands-on laboratory work, maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment, preparing reagents, managing inventory and documentation, coordinating routine administrative tasks, and supporting research activities.
This is a part-time position scheduled for 20 hours per week.
JOB DUTIES:
Responsibilities include supporting research on virus-host interactions and antiviral development as well as providing basic lab maintenance support as outlined below:
• Assist in the isolation of human cells.
• Perform routine laboratory techniques appropriate to experience level, which may include cell culture, microscopy, and Western blotting.
• Maintain accurate research and laboratory records.
• Prepare culture media and chemical solutions.
• Assist with inventory management, restocking supplies, and organizing laboratory materials.
• Clean and maintain laboratory equipment such as slides and glassware.
• Operate and empty autoclaves, sterilizers, and other laboratory equipment during routine laboratory maintenance work.
• Attend and present at laboratory meetings.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:
• Education: Required Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc.) in biological/health sciences or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Self-motivated with excellent communication skills.
• Research Skills: Preferred experience in mammalian cell culture.
• Software Proficiency: Microsoft Office.
POTENTIAL HAZARDS:
• Working with human samples.
• Safety training, equipment, clothing and supplies will be provided when required. Requires successful completion of a background check.
