Senior Director of Digital Media

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Director of Digital Media based in the United States.

This executive-level role offers the opportunity to shape the future of a dynamic digital media ecosystem through strategic content, audience growth, and innovative digital experiences.
You will lead the vision and execution of digital platforms, streaming initiatives, publishing operations, and consumer-facing products.
The position combines digital strategy, editorial leadership, product management, and media production expertise to drive engagement and organizational growth.
You will collaborate with creative, marketing, communications, production, and operational teams to deliver impactful content experiences.
The ideal candidate brings strong storytelling capabilities, business acumen, and experience scaling digital audiences across multiple platforms.
This role provides the opportunity to influence digital transformation, develop new revenue opportunities, and expand the reach of a recognized sports and media organization.
The position is remote and includes travel opportunities to support events, productions, and strategic initiatives.

Accountabilities:

The Senior Director of Digital Media will lead the strategy, development, and execution of a comprehensive digital media portfolio. This role is responsible for driving audience engagement, managing digital products, overseeing content operations, and identifying opportunities for innovation and growth.

  • Develop and execute an integrated digital media strategy covering streaming platforms, digital publications, and consumer-facing products.
  • Establish annual priorities, business plans, budgets, audience growth objectives, and performance metrics.
  • Analyze audience behavior, platform performance, market trends, and consumer insights to identify growth and revenue opportunities.
  • Provide strategic recommendations and performance updates to organizational leadership.
  • Lead programming and audience development strategies for streaming and digital video platforms.
  • Oversee planning for live and recorded programming, including editorial direction, production formats, sponsorship integration, and technical coordination.
  • Identify opportunities to expand content offerings through original productions, archives, partnerships, and emerging distribution channels.
  • Provide strategic direction for digital publishing initiatives, including editorial positioning, subscriptions, advertising, and audience engagement.
  • Collaborate with editorial teams and stakeholders to create compelling storytelling across digital, print, video, web, and social platforms.
  • Support content creation through script development, interviews, production planning, and editorial guidance.
  • Partner with marketing, creative, communications, production, event operations, and external vendors to execute integrated initiatives.
  • Monitor subscription, revenue, engagement, circulation, and performance data to guide investment decisions.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, digital trends, and industry best practices to continuously improve platforms and experiences.
  • Manage and mentor assigned editorial and contractor teams while fostering collaboration and innovation.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced digital media leader with a strong background in content strategy, streaming, publishing, and audience development. Candidates should demonstrate strategic thinking, creative leadership, and the ability to manage complex cross-functional initiatives.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Broadcasting, Digital Media, Marketing, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in digital media, broadcasting, publishing, streaming, content development, or related industries.
  • Proven experience developing digital content strategies, programming plans, and audience growth initiatives.
  • Experience managing digital products, streaming platforms, publishing operations, or media ecosystems preferred.
  • Experience producing or directing live sports, entertainment, or event programming preferred.
  • Strong understanding of digital publishing, streaming technologies, consumer products, and content distribution strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop business plans, manage budgets, and evaluate performance metrics.
  • Excellent editorial judgment and storytelling skills across video, digital, and written formats.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret audience insights and performance data.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and time management abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external partners, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with traditional marketing tools and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Ability to meet program requirements and maintain required volunteer compliance status.
