Help Veterans Access the Care They’ve Earned

At Visiting Angels Plano, we are passionate about helping veterans remain safe, independent, and comfortable in their own homes. We are seeking an experienced VA Community Outreach & Benefits Specialist to grow our veteran program by building strong relationships with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), community partners, and veteran organizations while helping veterans and their families navigate the benefits they have earned.

Position Summary

The VA Community Outreach & Benefits Specialist is responsible for developing referral relationships, educating veterans and their families about available VA home care benefits, assisting with the referral process, and increasing awareness of Visiting Angels throughout the veteran community.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain relationships with VA Social Workers, Community Care staff, Primary Care Teams, discharge planners, and other VA personnel.
  • Build partnerships with Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs), VFWs, American Legion posts, county Veteran Service Officers, senior centers, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and healthcare professionals.
  • Educate veterans and their families on VA home care programs, including:
    • VA Community Care
    • Aid & Attendance Pension Benefit
    • Homemaker/Home Health Aide (H/HHA) Program
    • Respite Care
    • Caregiver Support Programs
  • Guide veterans and their families through the VA referral and authorization process.
  • Conduct community presentations, networking events, health fairs, and veteran outreach activities.
  • Work closely with the Visiting Angels team to ensure timely admissions and exceptional client care.
  • Track referral activity and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Represent Visiting Angels with professionalism, compassion, and integrity throughout the community.
QualificationsRequired
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with the Department of Veterans Affairs, veteran services, healthcare, or home care.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • VA Community Care
    • Aid & Attendance
    • Homemaker/Home Health Aide Program
    • Respite Care
    • Veteran eligibility requirements
    • VA referral and authorization processes
  • Proven experience educating veterans and families about available benefits.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred
  • Existing relationships with the North Texas VA system or local veteran organizations.
  • Experience in home care, hospice, healthcare marketing, case management, or senior services.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
