The Opportunity

Greenwich House is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Older Adult Center Director to lead one of the Older Adult Centers and manage the social work students and staff within its network. The Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Older Adult Center, ensuring a welcoming, safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for members while managing an Assistant Director, and supervising and mentoring social work students in the case assistance program to support service delivery across the Older Adult Network (OAN).

The Director oversees daily meal service, develops and implements educational, cultural, and recreational programs, and collaborates closely with social work staff to coordinate client referrals and supportive services. The role also ensures the proper maintenance and upkeep of the center, builds strong relationships with center members, community partners, and stakeholders, and serves as the agency's liaison to the Center's Advisory Board.

In addition, the Director cultivates partnerships with schools of social work to strengthen the OAN case assistance program, providing mentorship, coordination, and meaningful learning opportunities for social work students while expanding client support services across the network.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Older Adult Center, ensuring a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment for members.
  • Manage and coordinate social work services across the Older Adult Network's five sites, ensuring consistent case assistance, service delivery, documentation, and adherence to agency and NYC Aging standards.
  • Oversee and cultivate Social Work Students for case assistance program throughout the OAN network.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timely submission of monthly reports to NYC Aging, including data on meals, class attendance, and services.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with NYC Aging regulatory standards and NYC Department of Health regulations related to food service and facility maintenance.
  • Maintain and manage a pre-allotted annual budget to ensure responsible use of program funds.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director to recruit volunteers and consultants to teach classes that reflect the interests and needs of center members.
  • Ensure consultant certifications and compliance with teaching contracts.
  • Oversee class evaluation processes and work with the Assistant Director to develop new programs based on member feedback and interests.
  • Engage and support the Center Member Advisory Council.
  • Utilize Canva to develop flyers, class programs, and menus.
  • Work with staff to maintain monthly supply orders.
  • Perform other duties and services as assigned.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily lunch service and coordinate aides and volunteers involved in meal service.
  • Monitor the daily schedule of programs and services.
  • Ensure building security at closing time.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness standards as required by NYC Aging and DOH regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Development and Communications teams on relevant initiatives.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Provide weekly supervision and support to staff.
  • Participate in regular supervision with your direct supervisor.
  • Attend and contribute to staff and program director meetings.
  • Complete annual performance evaluations for staff.

What You’ll Bring

  • Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Certified SIFI (Seminar in Field Instruction) credential required, or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and organize comprehensive programming for older adults, including recreational and educational offerings, while engaging staff, members, and stakeholders in the process.
  • Proven ability to plan, coordinate, and direct a variety of center activities, including trips and special events.
  • Proficient in using and training staff on new administrative systems, software, and digital platforms.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with members, staff, instructors, community partners, and the general public.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and leadership ability.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft applications, Canva, and Zoom; familiarity with Vive (NYC Aging data collection systems) is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and supervisory skills with the ability to manage paid staff, consultants, and volunteers effectively.

Location: Onsite; 20 Washington Square North, New York, NY

Schedule: 35 hours/week, Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reports To: Director of Older Adult Network Community Programming

Union Representation: Non-Union


Salary Range

The expected base salary for this position is $75,000 -$77,000 annually. This range reflects the anticipated compensation at the time of this posting and may be adjusted based on experience, education, and organizational needs.
