Job Description

About North Cloud

The public cloud is rapidly evolving, with businesses investing over $200B annually in cloud technology. As AI accelerates demand for scalable infrastructure, cloud costs are soaring, and most teams still rely on spreadsheets to manage them.

At North, we're building the next-generation cloud, AI, and data spend management platform. We give companies real-time visibility, control, and automation over their digital asset finances, so they can grow efficiently without wasting time or money.

Backed by top-tier investors and trusted by global customers like Brave, The New York Public Library, and SumUp, we're assembling a world-class team to redefine how businesses manage cloud infrastructure.

About the role

The people who buy North have run FinOps practices themselves. They can tell within ten minutes whether the person across the table has done the same. We want that person on our side of the table, and we want them shaping what we build next.

This is not a sales role and it is not a marketing role. It is a practitioner seat. You will spend your time with prospects, with customers, and with our product team, and the thread running through all three is that you have done this work at scale with real money on the line.

We are hiring two Advocates. This one goes deep on AWS. The other covers GCP and Azure.

You will report to Matt Biringer, our CEO and Co-Founder, and partner closely with our Principal Product Manager.

What you'll do

  • Join evaluations as the technical authority on AWS cost, from first call through close
  • Walk cloud leads and CFOs through what their AWS bill is actually telling them and where the real savings are
  • Run proof-of-concept engagements and answer hard questions directly, including the ones where the honest answer is that North is not the right fit yet
  • Stay involved after signature, helping new customers build a FinOps practice around North rather than simply switching it on
  • Identify accounts where adoption has stalled, diagnose why, and address it before the renewal conversation does
  • Pressure-test releases against real customer environments before they ship, and flag where our AWS coverage is thin or wrong
  • Work with our Principal Product Manager and CEO on what goes on the roadmap and what comes off it, bringing evidence from the field
  • Represent North publicly through writing, speaking and community involvement

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years running cloud FinOps, either as the head of a practice inside a company or in product management at a vendor in this space
  • Ownership of cost outcomes rather than advisory involvement in them
  • Deep AWS fluency, including the Cost and Usage Report, Reserved Instances, Savings Plans and EDP negotiation, and a clear understanding of the gap between what the billing data says and what actually happened
  • Experience designing tagging and allocation schemes that survive contact with engineering teams
  • Credibility with both finance and engineering audiences, and the ability to move between them inside the same meeting
  • Comfort operating in pre-sales without a quota, as the technical authority rather than the closer
  • A track record of turning customer patterns into product requirements that shipped
  • Willingness to disagree with a product decision and make the case directly to the CEO
  • Strong written communication, since much of the influence in this role happens in documents
  • Comfort with ambiguity and with a role that is still being drawn

Nice to have

  • FinOps Foundation certification or active involvement in the community
  • A point of view on AI, GPU and inference spend, which is where many of our customers are heading
  • Familiarity with FOCUS and the realities of normalizing billing data across providers
  • Working knowledge of GCP or Azure, even if AWS is where you go deep
  • Experience at an early-stage company where the role was not fully defined on day one

Work Setup

Hybrid role based in New York City, with an office in Dumbo, Brooklyn.

Benefits

  • Unlimited PTO
  • 16-week fully paid parental leave (20 weeks at 50% for mothers)
  • Company-wide breaks: last week of August & Dec 23–Jan 3
  • The opportunity to participate in company benefits, including a Medical PPO Plan with the majority of the premium covered by North
  • 30-day sabbatical every 4 years

The pay range for this role is:
130,000 - 180,000 USD per year(Brooklyn HQ)
