About Inwood Academy for Leadership

Inwood Academy for Leadership Charter School is a tuition-free public charter school that began as an idea among community members who longed to see more educational choices offered to the children of Washington Heights and Inwood.

Inwood Academy for Leadership Charter School will empower students in Inwood, Washington Heights and the Bronx to become agents for change through community-focused leadership, character development and college preparedness. Our staff regard our student leaders as burgeoning assets to their community and help them develop the tools they need to be successful in college and beyond. IAL is committed to providing a well-rounded educational experience for all students we serve. We are looking for candidates who are hardworking, flexible, and innovative as well as able to embody the IAL traits of leadership in their daily work (honesty, integrity, responsibility, caring and restraint).
Position DescriptionDuties & Responsibilities

Work in a collaborative team teaching or individual classroom settingEngage students in standard-aligned, active learningCultivate a safe, welcoming and rigorous learning environmentUse assessment data to inform instruction and improve student learningUtilize online student systems to track student progressContribute to program design and implementation at grade levelParticipate in all staff programs and academic planning, implementation, and evaluationWork collaboratively with other staff and teachers dailyEnforce and uphold school policies and cultureCommunicate effectively and maintain consistent relationships with students, colleagues, and familiesAny additional responsibilities assigned by AdministrationKey Skills, Attitudes and Behaviors:

Expert in foundational reading, writing and math skills and socio-emotional needs for elementary studentsStrong commitment to success of all students, in academics, character and leadership developmentReceptive to ongoing coaching, development and evaluationEnergetic, motivated, innovative and preparedAmbitious, entrepreneurial mindset committed to helping develop the components and culture of the schoolWide-ranging intellectual and educational interestsExcellent communication skillsTeam player, the ability to work collaborativelyQualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferredValid NYS Teaching Certificate preferredAt least one year of teaching experience in an urban environment preferredSpanish proficiency preferred but not required
