JOB SUMMARY
Purchasing Steel Buyer provides several system support functions for the following departments: manufacturing/ inventory control, quality control, shipping/receiving, sales, drafting and engineering in all three MICA Steelworks manufacturing plants. The primary function of this position is the timely and cost-effective procurement of goods and services to support MICA Steelworks production plans as well as perform functions to plan, schedule, and coordinate purchases for inventories within minimum levels required for all plants. These activities also include but are not limited to acting as the liaison at all levels between corporate, estimating, engineering, jobsites, remote offices, and services/spare parts and coordinating activities with manufacturing, engineering, sales and accounting.

QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications & Requirements
• Minimum of four (4) years of direct experience in procurement and production planning
• Solid knowledge of the steelmaking industry, including manufacturing processes, industrial relations, logistics, and procurement practices
• Strong understanding of ASTM specifications and material standards
• Prior experience in a manufacturing environment required; steel industry experience preferred
• Proficiency in computer systems, with experience in ERP/MRP platforms required; Global Shop experience strongly preferred
• Advanced proficiency in Power BI, including dashboard development, data modeling, and visualization
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets and drive data-based decisions
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis)
• Familiarity with commodity markets and pricing indices (e.g., CRU, AMM)
• Proven negotiation skills and experience managing vendor relationships
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, cross-functional environment
• Ability to perform in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting
• Strategic thinker with a data-driven mindset
• Must be able to successfully pass a background check, including criminal history, drug screening, physical examination, audiogram, and vision test

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Source and procure steel materials (plate, sheet, structural, and specialty products) in alignment with production requirements
• Develop and maintain relationships with mills, distributors, and service centers
• Negotiate pricing, contracts, and delivery terms to ensure cost efficiency and supply continuity
• Monitor supplier performance, quality, and lead times
• Collaborate with operations and planning teams to forecast material needs
• Maintain optimal inventory levels to balance availability and carrying costs
• Track and manage purchase orders from placement through delivery
• Analyze market trends, pricing fluctuations, and supply risks to support strategic purchasing decisions
• Develop and maintain dashboards and reports using Power BI to monitor:
o Material costs and trends
o Supplier performance
o Inventory turnover and usage
• Use data-driven insights to identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements
• Identify inefficiencies in procurement and supply chain processes and recommend improvements
• Support digital transformation initiatives related to purchasing and inventory systems
• Ensure compliance with internal policies and industry standards

Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field (preferred)
• 3+ years of experience in steel purchasing, metals procurement, or industrial supply chain
• Strong understanding of steel grades, specifications, and market dynamics
