Rapid Response Machinist – B Shift in Rochester, New York at Tokai Carbon GS

Essential Functions

• Take full, hands-on responsibility for assigned machining jobs from receipt of the order through completion of the finished, inspected part.
• Review the work order, 3D model, blueprint, engineering drawing, dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T requirements to understand the part requirements and plan the job.
• Independently determine the fastest practical and reliable method to manufacture the part, including machine selection, tooling, work holding, fixturing, machining sequence, and inspection requirements.
• Independently program, set up, prove out, and operate CNC mills and CNC lathes, making all necessary programming, tooling, offset, and process adjustments to complete the part.
• Perform manual machining operations when necessary to efficiently complete one-off, prototype, replacement, repair, tooling, and short-run parts.
• Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspection using precision measuring equipment to verify parts meet applicable dimensional, tolerance, and quality requirements.
• Troubleshoot and correct programming, setup, tooling, dimensional, and machining issues to keep the job moving through completion with minimal delay.
• Respond to changing production priorities and move between jobs, machines, and processes as necessary to support urgent and quick-turn machining requirements.
• Coordinate directly with Engineering, Production, Quality, and CAD/CAM when clarification or technical support is required, while maintaining ownership of the job through completion.
• Complete required machining and inspection documentation and maintain machines, tooling, fixtures, measuring equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, organized, and ready-to-use condition.

Turnaround time is the primary responsibility of this position. The goal is not high-volume production, it’s to rapidly produce the parts supporting our customers’ needs when they are needed, with the required quality.

· Minimum 5 years of CNC programming and setup experience.

· Extensive hands-on CNC machining experience.

· Manual machining experience (manual mill and lathe) required.

· Demonstrated proficiency with both CNC milling and CNC turning.

· Demonstrated ability to take a part from print or requirement through completed machined component.

· Must be capable of independently programming CNC equipment.

· Must be capable of independently developing setups and selecting tooling and work holding.

· Strong blueprint reading and GD&T skills.

· Strong shop math skills.

· Strong knowledge of speeds and feeds, cutting tools, inserts, work holding, fixturing, offsets, and machining practices.

· Strong dimensional and machining problem-solving skills.

· Fanuc control experience or equivalent CNC control experience applicable to assigned equipment.

· Ability to use standard precision measuring and inspection equipment.

· Ability to work to English and metric dimensions.

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

· Ability to rapidly change priorities based on manufacturing requirements.

· Quick-turn, prototype, one-off, repair, and short-run machining experience strongly preferred.

· Experience with Lean manufacturing principles and ISO quality systems preferred.
