Job Description

Collections Manager

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Collections Manager based in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to build and lead a high-performing consumer lending collections function from the ground up.
You will own collections strategy and execution across multiple stages of delinquency while partnering closely with Risk and other business teams.
The position combines people leadership, operational ownership, regulatory oversight, and data-driven performance management.
You will oversee both an internal collections organization and third-party agency relationships as the program scales.
Your work will directly influence recovery performance, customer outcomes, operational efficiency, and the long-term effectiveness of the collections program.
You will operate in a fast-moving environment where processes and infrastructure are continuously evolving and improving.
The role is ideal for an experienced collections leader who enjoys building teams, solving complex operational challenges, and using technology to modernize collections.

Accountabilities
  • Build, hire, develop, and lead the personal loan collections organization, including supervisors and collectors, as the function grows.
  • Own the execution and ongoing development of the collections program across delinquency stages, partnering closely with Risk on strategy, policies, and priorities.
  • Manage third-party collection agency relationships, including agency selection, onboarding, volume allocation, ongoing performance management, and continuous optimization.
  • Establish and monitor collections performance through key metrics such as roll rates, cure rates, cost to collect, right-party contact, and other operational KPIs.
  • Ensure all collections activities comply with FDCPA requirements and applicable state regulations, working closely with Legal and Compliance on complaints, audits, remediation, and regulatory risk.
  • Develop, document, and continuously improve collections processes, procedures, and SOPs to support consistent and scalable operations.
  • Identify gaps between existing tools and platform capabilities and collaborate with internal teams to implement technology, automation, and process improvements.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Risk, Product, Legal, Compliance, Data, and other stakeholders to develop strategic initiatives and improve collections outcomes.
  • Build a culture of accountability, operational excellence, continuous improvement, and effective collaboration across the collections organization.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in consumer lending collections or loan servicing, including at least 3 years in a people leadership position.
  • Demonstrated experience managing third-party collection agencies and improving agency performance through data, operational discipline, and key collections KPIs.
  • Strong knowledge of collections compliance and regulatory requirements, including FDCPA and applicable state regulations.
  • Proven ability to build and scale teams, operational processes, and collections programs in an evolving environment where structure and systems may still be developing.
  • Strong analytical and performance management skills, with the ability to interpret collections metrics and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience partnering effectively with Risk, Product, Legal, Compliance, and Data teams.
  • Strong understanding of consumer lending operations and the ability to balance business performance, customer outcomes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working in fintech, digital lending, or non-bank financial services is a strong advantage.
  • Experience building or scaling a collections function or program from the ground up is preferred.
  • Familiarity with personal loans, student loans, or unsecured installment lending is beneficial.
  • Experience leveraging automation, modern technology, or data-driven solutions to improve collections processes is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, ownership, resilience, problem-solving, and continuous improvement mindset.

Benefits

  • Annual base salary range of $98,000–$123,000 USD, with starting compensation determined by location, job-related qualifications, internal compensation considerations, and budget.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance, along with savings plans.
  • Company-provided Mac computer and work-from-home stipend to support a productive home office.
  • Monthly internet and phone reimbursement.
  • Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
  • Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company matching.
  • Robust tuition reimbursement program.
  • $1,000 travel benefit on each work anniversary to use toward travel anywhere in the world.
  • Competitive annual paid time off.
  • Competitive parental leave.
  • An inclusive workplace focused on diversity, equity, belonging, and ensuring employees feel valued and heard.
  • A culture that emphasizes speed, resilience, excellence, shared leadership, ownership, continuous improvement, and a healthy sense of humor.
