Role and Responsibilities
Oversee lab staff and ensure they are following SOPs and policies.
Oversee training of new staff and ensure documentation is uploaded to the online site file.
The Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for accurately performing specimen analysis, instrument maintenance, and quality control procedures including moderate and high complexity laboratory tests.
Follows laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing test analysis, reporting and maintain records of patient results.
Follows necessary QA/QC requirements for a COLA laboratory.
Performs routine Chemistry, Hematology, and Urinalysis testing
Prepares peripheral blood smear and performs complete WBC differential on normal and abnormal smears
Processes samples for send out and reflex laboratory testing
Participates in proficiency testing by performing sample analysis and reporting results at least once a year
Assists with special procedures as needed (i.e., bone marrow aspiration/biopsy procedures).
Ensures operation of analyzers and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
Provides medical technology information by answering questions and requests, and prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by maintaining certification requirements.
Maintains inter- and intradepartmental workflow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols.
Maintains patient confidence and protects the company by keeping information confidential per HIPAA regulations.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements
Bachelors degree in the Sciences
ASCP certification as an MLS
Minimum of 4+ years of experience as a Med Laboratory Scientist in high complexity lab
Hematology/Core Lab/Phlebotomy experience is preferred
Must be comfortable with manual differential testing and performing venipunctures
Must be comfortable with Clinical Lab Testing, Chemistry Techniques, and Analyzing Information
Must be comfortable with Equipment Maintenance
25% overnight travel required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel and databases
Must be a team player with great communication
