About This Position

The Safety Tech reports to the Safety Manager and ensures site compliance with environmental, health and safety regulatory requirements, as well as, serves as an advocate for our site’s safety program to ensure alignment with the site owner’s safety requirements. You will function as a role model along with craftsmen on the job site. The Safety Tech uses established procedures and works under general supervision of the Safety Manager to implement and maintain company policies adhering to local, state, and federal environmental, health and safety regulations. The incumbent shall be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the environmental health and safety field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complex tasks, multitasks, and stays focused. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Responsibilities
  • Implements and oversees the Project Safety Program including the development of site safety policies and procedures.
  • Conducts all-hands-on-deck daily safety meetings, training, and new hire orientation.
  • Monitors all heavy industrial construction work for compliance with safety requirements.
  • Stay constantly aware of conditions and work practices, being empowered to stop all unsafe work when needed.
  • Be proactive in all areas of safety and recognize potential safety issues and hazards.

Qualifications
  • Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Industrial or equivalent degree/work experience.
  • Certification as a Safety Professional preferred.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 lbs.
  • 5 or more years’ relevant construction experience.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Current HAZWOPER and LOTO training preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in Confined Space work and permitting.
  • Experience with working in and around heavy civil environment
  • Ability to work in a highly specific work environment (deep excavations or on elevated structures) and around related equipment.
  • Willingness to relocate to project sites across the Texas or Louisiana Gulf Coast.
  • Working in a fast-paced office and field environment among numerous other disciplines.
  • Must be able to interact professionally with all levels of management while simultaneously managing a diversified workload and challenging situations efficiently and effectively.
  • Regularly sit, stand, walk, and talk and listen.

Work Environment

The job will primarily be on or around construction/turnaround sites in petrochemical operational units and include possible hazardous environments such as confined spaces and working at heights. Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, irritants, and smoke may occur. Special Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be necessary to control some hazardous environments. Additional forms of PPE may be required depending on the particular project. Safety requirements must be verified and meet standards set forth by client permits, policies and procedures, and be performed in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws or ordinances before work activities can begin.
