Description:

Position Summary

The Technical Writer supports the Perkins Federal Student Loan Contract by developing, reviewing, and maintaining borrower communications and program documentation in compliance with Federal Student Aid (FSA) requirements, Department of Education regulations, and contract-specific guidelines. This position is responsible for ensuring all written communications are accurate, clear, legally compliant, and consistent with program policies and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate possesses strong writing and editing skills, attention to detail, and experience translating complex regulatory requirements into clear, borrower-friendly communications. This role works closely with program management, compliance, quality assurance, and operational teams to ensure all communications meet federal standards and contractual obligations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop, edit and maintain borrower-facing communications, including:
    • Letters
    • Email templates
    • Notices
    • Web content
    • Policies
    • Procedures
    • Program guides
    • Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
    • Other Customer Communications
  • Ensure all written materials comply with Federal Student Aid (FSA) requirements, Department of Education regulations, and contract requirements.
  • Review existing communications for regulatory compliance, readability, consistency, and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with compliance, legal, quality assurance, and operational stakeholders to incorporate regulatory updates into borrower communications.
  • Interpret federal regulations, policies, procedures, and guidance documents to support communication development.
  • Maintain document version control and support documentation management processes.
  • Conduct quality reviews and proofreading to ensure accuracy and consistency across all materials.
  • Assist with audits, compliance reviews, and customer communication assessments.
  • Recommend improvements to communication processes and document management practices.
  • Support special projects and other writing assignments as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Journalism, Public Administration, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Five (5) or more years of professional writing, technical writing, compliance writing, or regulatory communications experience.
  • Excellent written, editing, proofreading, and grammar skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience interpreting and applying policies, regulations, or procedural requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Federal Public Trust (5c) Security Clearance (financial/credit history and background will be reviewed):
    • Not in default on federal student loans.
    • Demonstrated financial responsibility.
    • No felony convictions within the past 7 years.
    • No non-medical collections totaling $7,500 or more in collections.
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while meeting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting federal government contracts.
  • Experience with Federal Student Aid (FSA), higher education financing, student loan servicing, or related programs.
  • Familiarity with Department of Education regulations and borrower communication requirements.
  • Experience working in highly regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of document management and version control processes.
