Job Description

Description:

The Saw Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining band saws to produce parts safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Virnig Manufacturing’s quality standards. This role requires strong communication and collaboration with team members across departments. Success in this position relies on effective troubleshooting, critical thinking, and organizational skills to ensure accurate, timely production and proper documentation of work.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate CNC band saw cutting parts and optimizing material to get the best yield, reducing waste and running equipment at optimal speed.
  • Occasionally operate manual machine tools.
  • Read and interpret prints for components being produced to ensure specifications are being met.
  • Measure and examine completed parts in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to Virnig quality standards and product specifications.
  • Label parts and sort them onto pallets, into bins, or in other designated storage locations.
  • Perform necessary side operations during machine cycle time as required.
  • Perform basic tack welding as needed to secure or bundle cut material for handling or transport.
  • Monitor levels of raw materials and alert lead when concerns arise.
  • Safely operate a forklift to load band saw table, transfer parts, and unload trucks.
  • Perform daily and weekly equipment maintenance to ensure good working condition.
  • Ensure all safety policies are followed, wear personal protective equipment.
  • Participate in proper ergonomic practices as designed of this position.
  • Maintain a clean and organized area / work station.
  • Work as a team-member to aid all shifts and support personnel to operate to departmental standards including quality and productivity goals.
  • Responsible to inform leads(s) of any concerns that arise.
  • Be cooperative, positive, and respectful with management, leads, coworkers and team.
  • Assist in other areas as needed, other duties as assigned.
  • Work overtime as needed.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; basic math skills required.
  • 1 year of manufacturing or mechanical experience required.
  • Previous forklift and hoist experience required.
  • General computing skills required.

Skills:

  • Ability to operate pneumatic and hand tools such as sanders, grinders, and drills.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and a protractor to perform accurate measurements per specific blueprint and drawing tolerances.
  • Ability to pay close attention to details and maintain data integrity to a high degree.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read tape measure to perform accurate measurements per specific print and drawing tolerances.
  • Able to work as part of a team by sharing information, listening actively, following directions, and communicating clearly via written and verbal communication in English.
  • Able to work both independently and as a team.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, and reaching required throughout the shift.
  • Regular exposure to repetitive motions involving hands, wrists, arms, and shoulders.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods on concrete floors.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, helmet, ear plugs, and safety glasses.

Pay: $25.50/hour

Hours: 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Scheduled Fridays during busy season.
