Employee Type: Full Time - Exempt
Required Degree: Fouryeardegree

Description
Ready to build a career in grain from the ground up? The DeLong Co. is hiring a Grain Division Managerial Trainee in Clinton, WI - a hands-on, learn-every-seat program that takes a driven, curious person through every discipline in our grain division, from the accounting desk to the elevator floor. You'll learn alongside the people who run our business, and you'll build the skills and relationships to grow into a Grain Merchant or management role.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
For a set training period, you'll sit with each area of our grain business and stay until you've mastered it. Your progress is reviewed regularly with the Head of Merchandising. Your rotation includes:
• Accounting: Get hands-on with our AGRIS accounting software, review contracts, tickets, and settlements, manage accounts receivable, enter and amend contracts, and review customer accounts
• Merchandising and Origination: Learn our grain contracts, talk with producers and end users, manage physical trading positions by monitoring HPR and contracts, and understand trade arbitrage and intercompany trades
• Customer Service: Learn to manage the day-to-day needs of customer accounts and build lasting relationships, sitting in on customer visits and sales calls with our Grain Merchandisers
• Risk Management: See how risk is managed in grain trading: running the hedge desk, reconciling the daily HPR, and performing audit and risk-mitigation procedures
• Logistics: Understand truck, rail, and barge shipping lanes, calculate transportation rates, work with shippers and receivers, review freight invoices, and create and communicate shipping schedules
• Grain Grading: Learn grading procedures for corn, soybeans, and wheat, operate the one-weigh and scale operations, perform purity and toxin tests, organize scale tickets and samples, and communicate quality with outside operations
• Outside Operations: Experience how an elevator runs: quality management, safety procedures and software, repair and maintenance, inventory management and software, and PLC operation
BEYOND THE ROTATION
Along the way, you'll get a front-row view of the bigger picture:
• Real Projects: Support colleagues on grain division projects, including investments, acquisitions, projections, and strategic planning
• Data Analytics: Complete analytics for the Head of Merchandising, Vice President of Grain, and President to help guide business decisions
• Documentation: Keep grain documentation accurate and organized
• Grain Policy: Learn and follow the practices and procedures in The DeLong Company grain policy
Requirements
WHAT YOU BRING
Required:
• 1 year of agricultural business experience or a farming background
• 4-year college degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Agriculture, or Economics, or equivalent industry experience
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Familiarity with AGRIS accounting software
• Strong communication skills
• Strong organizational skills
• Willingness to take responsibility and speak up within the organization
Preferred:
• 1+ years of experience in finance, accounting, business, agriculture, or economics
WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH
Inside the company, you'll work with our entire grain division team, with oversight from the Head of Merchandising, Vice President of Grain, and Accounting staff. Outside, you'll connect with producers, end users, brokers, industry professionals, and auditors. You'll have the authority to make decisions within the scope of your current rotation. When challenges come up, you'll research them, brainstorm with others, and work together to find the best solution.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & REQUIREMENTS
You'll sit for long periods at times, handle a fast-paced workload with changing requirements, and work extended hours during our busy season. A valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance are required. We're looking for someone who is driven to complete tasks and succeed within the organization.
