Valuations Analyst (Future Deal Team Analyst)

We are looking for a valuations analyst to join our growing team, with the opportunity to transition to a principal investment role in the Lower Middle Market investment group. We are looking for someone that can bring their attention to detail, strong work ethic and organizational skills to our team and organization. We are searching for a self-starter with a positive attitude who will focus on getting the job done in an efficient and effective manner in a deadline sensitive environment.

This position will be engaged as a member of the corporate accounting and finance team primarily assisting with the quarterly valuations of investments in our portfolio companies. This role offers the opportunity to further develop valuation/finance skills, in addition to general accounting and analysis skills. Assuming strong performance consistent with expectations, this position will have the opportunity to transition to a principal investment role in the Lower Middle Market investment group within 24 months (subject to personnel needs and performance).

Responsibilities:

  • Assist lower middle market and middle market investment groups in the preparation of quarterly portfolio company valuation models
  • Prepare and analyze valuation metrics/summary schedules
  • Assist in organizing and providing valuation data to external auditors and third-party valuation consultants.
  • SEC reporting (10-K, 10-Q, etc.)
  • Management (internal) reporting and analysis
  • Special projects and ad hoc reporting as directed by executive management
  • Investor and Analyst presentations
  • Skills/ Qualifications

  • Should exhibit strong organizational and communication skills
  • Must demonstrate leadership potential and exhibit strong performance
  • Should be outgoing and exhibit strong interpersonal skills
  • Must exhibit a strong work ethic and be willing to complete projects accurately under tight deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required (Master’s in Accounting or MBA is a plus)
  • Prefer candidates who currently have a CPA or CFA designation or are currently working towards one of these designations
  • Significant exposure to general accounting is required (valuations/financial modeling experience is a differentiator)
  • 1.5-3 years of experience in banking, accounting, or related finance function (preferably through public accounting) is required
  • Strong accounting and GAAP background required
  • Should exhibit strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Future deal-team position responsibilities/experiences:

  • The evaluation of prospective investment opportunities.
  • Marketing initiatives to establish and maintain relationships with institutions and investment bankers that would provide Main Street with future deal flow.
  • Interactions with investment bankers to learn more about potential deal opportunities.
  • Management meetings with prospective portfolio companies in order to fully evaluate strengths and weaknesses of the potential investment.
  • Modeling, transaction structuring, and financial due diligence.
  • Board meetings with portfolio companies that update the investment team on investment performance and strategic initiatives.
  • Financial analysis and modeling to evaluate various transaction structures.
  • Company and industry research.
  • Preparation of internal investment committee presentations.
  • Assistance in drafting investment summaries and investment memos.
  • Negotiation of confidentiality agreements with investment bankers and other intermediaries.
  • Assistance in due diligence process through financial analysis, research, review of management and/or lender presentations, and management interviews.
  • Updates of portfolio company models and assumptions to represent current investment value on a routine basis.
  • Contact, investment bank, and transaction database management.
