Pharmacy Technician
Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician supports the pharmacy by accurately preparing, packaging, labeling, and dispensing prescription medications while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies. This role combines patient service, prescription processing, inventory management, insurance billing, and administrative support to ensure efficient pharmacy operations and high-quality patient care.
Job Purpose
This position supports pharmacists in safely and efficiently dispensing medications while maintaining compliance, inventory accuracy, and exceptional customer service. The Pharmacy Technician plays a key role in ensuring patients receive the right medication, in the right dose, at the right time.
Essential Functions
Prescription Processing & Medication Distribution
Receive, process, prepare, package, label, and dispense prescription medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
Accurately enter prescription information into the pharmacy management system.
Prepare prescriptions for pharmacist verification.
Process refill requests and maintain workflow queues.
Assist with medication synchronization and adherence programs.
Patient Service & Communication
Provide professional customer service to patients, providers, and stakeholders.
Answer pharmacy telephone calls and assist with routine inquiries.
Communicate prescription status, refill requests, and insurance-related information.
Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
Inventory Management & 340B Operations
Receive, stock, rotate, and organize pharmacy inventory.
Monitor inventory levels and assist with medication ordering and reconciliation.
•Support 340B inventory management, documentation, and compliance activities.
•Assist with medication recalls and expired medication management.
Billing, Insurance & Compliance
Process third-party insurance claims and troubleshoot claim rejections.
Assist with prior authorization documentation and insurance communications.
Maintain accurate pharmacy records and documentation.
Support pharmacy audits, inspections, and quality assurance activities.
Adhere to all federal, state, and organizational pharmacy regulations and policies.
Technology
Utilize PioneerRx Pharmacy Management System to support prescription processing, inventory management, patient communications, and workflow management.
Utilize pharmacy technology and reporting tools to support operational efficiency.
Qualifications
Education & Licensure
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Active Florida Registered Pharmacy Technician license required.
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred.
Experience
Minimum two years of pharmacy technician experience preferred.
Experience with PioneerRx Pharmacy Management System strongly preferred.
Experience in a 340B pharmacy environment preferred.
Immunization administration certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of pharmacy operations, medications, dosage forms, and insurance billing processes.
Knowledge of 340B program requirements and pharmacy compliance standards preferred.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 30 pounds.
Frequent computer and telephone use.
Exposure to medications and hazardous substances in a pharmacy setting.
Occasional travel between organizational locations and events.
May require evening, weekend, or overtime hours based on business needs.
