Position Title: Field Safety Coordinator I
Department: Safety
Location: North Alabama Area
Position Summary
The Field Safety Coordinator I supports the company's safety program by assisting with job site inspections, hazard identification, safety training, incident documentation, and regulatory compliance. Working closely with field supervision and the Safety Department, this role helps promote a safe work environment by conducting inspections and observations, supporting new hire orientations, assisting with audits and investigations, and ensuring compliance with company policies and OSHA standards. The Field Safety Coordinator plays a key role in fostering a proactive safety culture through education, communication, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Job Site Safety Oversight
- Conduct regular job site inspections and safety observations to ensure compliance with company safety policies and federal/ state regulations.
- Identify potential hazards and work with supervisors and crews to implement corrective actions.
- Monitor work activities to ensure proper use of equipment, tools, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Assist in implementing safety procedures and ensuring all employees follow established safety guidelines.
- Perform hazard recognition activities and proactively address unsafe conditions and behaviors
Safety Training & Communication
- Conduct new hire safety orientations and assist with ongoing employee safety training
- Assist with safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee safety training.
- Educate employees on safe work practices, hazard recognition, and accident prevention.
- Support new employee safety orientation and onboarding procedures.
- Serve as a resource to employees and supervisors regarding safety policies and procedures.
- Assist in tracking employee safety training and certification requirements
Incident Response & Documentation
- Assist with the investigation of workplace incidents, injuries, and near misses.
- Complete timely and accurate incident reports and required documentation
- Maintain inspection reports, corrective action logs, training records, and other required safety documentation.
- Monitor corrective actions to ensure identified deficiencies are resolved promptly.
Compliance & Program Support
- Help maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and other applicable safety standards.
- Support implementation of company safety programs and initiatives.
- Assist with maintaining safety records, certifications, and regulatory documentation.
- Support environmental and regulatory compliance efforts as assigned.
- Support internal and external safety audits
Professional Conduct & Team Support
- Maintain professional working relationships with employees, supervisors, contractors, and clients.
- Promote safe work practices and reinforce the company’s safety culture in the field.
- Represent the company in a professional and ethical manner at all times.
- Maintain required certifications and complete all assigned training within established timeframes
- Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and effective communication while supporting supervisors and field personnel
- Contribute to continuous improvement of the company’s safety culture through consistent field presence, employee coaching, and proactive hazard recognition
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications / Requirements
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma
- 0-2 Years Construction Field Experience and/or Relevant Safety Experience
- OSHA 10
Required Certifications
- Valid Driver’s License
- ADEM QCI Certification
- OSHA 30 Construction
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- Traffic Control Training
- Trenching and Excavation Training
- Confined Space and Competent Person Training
- Lock Out Tag Out Training
- Reasonable Suspicion Training
- Hazwoper 40 Certification.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Arsenal, FBI and NASA Badge when required by project or customer.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and comply with the company's drug and alcohol policy
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Ability to work collaboratively with employees, supervisors, project managers, and clients
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with operations and executive leadership.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn and utilize company software and safety management systems.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, crouch, kneel, climb, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and dust.
- Ability to travel between job sites as needed.
