Performs all required duties of bone densitometry including but not limited to patient clinical and research testing, and related tasks.

I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Receives patients and conducts patient interviews to obtain medical history data. Explains procedures. Positions patients according to individual research and/or clinical protocol requirements using anatomical markers.
2. Assesses need and condition of assigned patients and provides necessary interventions to assure patient comfort and privacy.
3. Performs imaging procedures for various clinical and research bone densitometry studies in accordance with prescribed protocols.
4. Analyzes scans and compares to baseline evaluations. Determines need for additional scans/views/ to allow MD optimal diagnostic criteria.
5. Performs quality control and quality assurance procedures on equipment and computer as required. Archives and retrieves data.
6. Maintains required records, reports, statistics, patient folders and related information.

7. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. High School diploma.
2. Licensed as a radiologic technologist by the state of Massachusetts; MSRT (with or without specific post primary credentials) OR a primary certificate for bone density – CBDT. If not licensed or certified upon hire, must obtain credential within 12 months as a condition of employment.
3. BLS certification.
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Thorough knowledge of a specialized field such as radiology or nuclear medicine.
2. One year of patient care experience.
The position may include cross campus rotations.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies, including age-specific competencies and their measurements, will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

Must be able to lift and position patients and imaging equipment. Hearing and visual acuity sufficient to perform imaging procedures, observe patients, read monitors and documents and hear equipment alarms. Occupational exposure to ionizing radiation.
