Job Description
The Middle School Science Teacher develops and delivers instruction in science aligned with Core Knowledge/Classical curriculum standards. This role fosters a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes curiosity, critical thinking, scientific reasoning, and a love of science. The teacher contributes to the school’s mission by cultivating students’ intellectual growth and preparing them for lifelong learning.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with Core Knowledge/Classical curriculum standards.
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation, engagement, and curiosity.
- Plan a program of study tailored to the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, challenging each to achieve their best work.
- Utilize a variety of teaching strategies, instructional materials, and technology to accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Assess and evaluate student progress through formative and summative assessments, providing timely and constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grade records, and student progress reports using the student information system.
- Promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific reasoning through hands-on experiments, lab work, and projects.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues to support academic and personal growth.
- Stay current with advancements in science education and integrate new technologies and teaching methods into the classroom.
- Collaborate with colleagues to enhance curriculum design, interdisciplinary projects, and school-wide initiatives.
- Cooperate with the board and administration in implementing all school policies, procedures, and directives.
- Represent the school professionally to students, parents, colleagues, and the community.
- Follow grievance policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies in accordance with school protocols.
- Manage and maintain classroom materials, lab equipment, and school-owned resources responsibly.
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences to ensure effective home-school communication.
- Maintain a teacher page on the school website with relevant classroom information and resources.
- Participate in professional development and continue learning to enhance knowledge and teaching skills.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including supervision of carpool, lunch, or recess activities.
