Position Summary
The Purchasing Buyer Generalist provides day-to-day support for purchasing operations and assigned product lines. This position works closely with buyers, vendors, sales representatives, and internal departments to maintain accurate product and vendor information, support timely purchasing activities, and help ensure efficient inventory management and customer service.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Create purchase orders as needed to fulfill product replenishment requirements.
- Provide primary support for assigned product lines and purchasing activities.
- Set up and maintain accurate item and vendor records.
- Manage Just-in-Time (JIT) processes associated with assigned responsibilities.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels to support service-level goals while minimizing dead stock and maximizing inventory turns.
- Complete purchase order confirmations accurately and in a timely manner.
- Communicate with vendors, buyers, sales representatives, and internal departments regarding purchasing and product information.
- Assist with company trade show preparation and coordination.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree or equivalent education from a two-year college or technical school preferred.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel, required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Previous foodservice, purchasing, inventory, or distribution experience preferred.
- Professional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, vendors, and outside sales representatives.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong customer-service mindset with the ability to anticipate the needs of internal and external customers.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to learn new software and systems quickly.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Work Environment
This position operates primarily in a standard office environment and routinely uses computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing systems, and other standard business equipment.
