Job Summary:
The Emergency Department Tech/C.N.A., EMT, Paramedic assists providers and nurses in providing efficient, high-quality emergency care to patients in a fast-paced hospital environment. The ED tech performs clinical support duties, patient care activities while providing patient comfort, safety, and timely flow through the emergency department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports and promotes an environment conducive with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital.
- Assist nurses and providers with patient care procedures and treatments.
- Take and record vital signs, height, weight, intake and output, and measurements as applicable, in an accurate and precise manner.
- Notifies nurses of changes in patient’s condition in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Perform EKG’s, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing as assigned.
- Assist with patient transport, transfers, and discharge processes.
- Greets and interviews patients and obtains signatures for the purpose of initiating the patient record.
- Keeps and maintains the ER Central Logbook and follows all EMTALA regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of all patients, hospital, or physician related information.
- Prepare treatment rooms and maintain stocked supplies and equipment.
- Support trauma, cardiac, and emergency response situations.
- Assists with daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of work and storage areas.
- Maintain orderly condition of assigned work area.
- Maintain infection prevention and safety standards.
- Provide compassionate support to patients and families during emergency situations.
- Is knowledgeable of general hospital policies and procedures.
- Accepts reassignment to other units if necessary.
- Other duties may be assigned and are subject to change with or without prior notice.

- Willingness to perform a variety of minimal repetitive tasks that may involve unpleasant conditions and maintain patience and tact.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- May require nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.

- Completes and maintains all required education and/or training requirements.
- Complies with HIPAA regulations and always maintains patient confidentiality.
- Follows and maintains all lawful safety, health requirements, and regulations, and follow protocols for required protective equipment (PPE).
- Promptly reports safety issues, job-related injury, or illness, near misses, etc. in SafetyZone.
- Follows Hillsboro Health Standards of Behavior.
Education and/or Experience:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English.
Certificates and Licenses: Must hold one of the following.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Medical Assistant (MA)
- Paramedic
- Completed 2nd semester of RN schooling with proof of competencies.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.

CORPORATE COMPLIANCE
Receives training and/or attends necessary meetings to meet the criteria as outlined in Hillsboro Health’s Corporate Compliance Plan and Code of Conduct. Understands the responsibilities related to compliance and knows whether to contact the Corporate Compliance Officer should there be any instance of question or concern regarding fraud and/or abuse.
SALARY INFORMATION
C.N.A. $17.50 - $21.88 per hour
EMT $18.90 - $23.63 per hour
Paramedic $20.41 - $25.52 per hour
