Summary:
The Industrial Engineering Specialist supports manufacturing efficiency, capacity, facility utilization, and production flow through the application of industrial engineering and continuous improvement principles. This role develops and maintains facility layouts, analyzes manufacturing flow and capacity, and identifies practical opportunities to improve productivity, space utilization, and operational performance.
Working cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Finance, and other stakeholders, the Industrial Engineering Specialist leads defined improvement projects, supports facility and capital planning, coordinates with external contractors and suppliers, and provides data-driven recommendations to support operational decisions and future growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Facility Layout & Project Support
- Develop and maintain facility layouts to support manufacturing operations, material flow, space utilization and future growth.
- Evaluate facility, equipment and infrastructure requirements and provide recommendations to support operational needs and changes.
- Coordinate with contractors and suppliers to support facility-related projects and services.
Process, Capacity & Continuous Improvement
- Analyze manufacturing processes, capacity, flow and operational performance to identify constraints and improvement opportunities.
- Develop capacity and resource recommendations to support current production requirements and future demand.
- Apply industrial engineering and Lean principles to improve productivity, throughput, material flow, space utilization and process effectiveness.
- Lead or design cross-functional improvement projects and support broader continuous improvement and 5S initiatives.
Operational & Capital Support
- Provide analysis and recommendations to support capital planning, equipment requirements and operational decision-making.
- Analyze operational performance measures, including OEE, capacity and equipment utilization, to identify constraints, trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Support facility and operational projects from planning through implementation in collaboration with Operations and other stakeholders.
Safety & Collaboration
- Incorporate safety, ergonomics and material handling considerations into facility layouts and process improvements.
- Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Finance, contractors, suppliers and other stakeholders to implement practical and sustainable solutions.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Technical Skills & Experience
- 3+ years of industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, continuous improvement or related experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with facility layout, manufacturing flow, capacity analysis and process improvement.
- Strong understanding of industrial engineering, Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
- Experience supporting facility, equipment or manufacturing improvement projects and coordinating with contractors or suppliers.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is required; experience with SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Industry & Quality Knowledge
- Experience in aerospace, precision manufacturing, additive manufacturing, CNC machining or another complex manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with manufacturing equipment, infrastructure, material flow and facility planning principles.
- Knowledge of AS9100 or similar quality management systems is considered an asset.
Education & Professional Attributes
- Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Industrial, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology or a related field; equivalent education and experience will be considered.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop practical recommendations.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively across functions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate technical and operational information effectively.
- Demonstrated initiative, accountability and sound judgment with a continuous improvement mindset.

Pay Range:
The expected base salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000 CAD annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate's skills, experience, education, and qualifications.
