Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: Delivers, sets-up, removes, cleans, tests and stores home medical equipment and supplies in patient/client homes in a professional manner. Assumes responsibility for product delivery in a timely manner (readmission prevention) and teaching all facets of clinical use and care of life-sustaining & medically necessary equipment, transport, inventory control, paperwork, and documentation. Inspects equipment and either makes routine repairs, or tags for exchange/repair. Communicates with case managers, patients, family members and caregivers in the process of issuing and fitting home medical equipment during normal and on-call work hours.
EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Required: High school diploma. Aptitude for mechanical and technical work. Ability to effectively instruct patients/clients in the proper clinical use and care of equipment and supplies. Ability to learn medical terminology and use it properly in communications. Ability to maintain records. Ability to read, understand, apply and explain safety precautions and procedures pertaining to oxygen cylinders and other DME. Valid NC Driver’s License. Must be able to accept “on-call” status on a rotating weekly basis and respond to emergency calls after hours when “on-call.”
Preferred: Above, plus working knowledge and experience in retail, home care or DME, and education/training/experience in the operation,
maintenance and repair of home medical equipment and devices.
