About the Position

Do you enjoy helping people find what they need and making their library visit a great experience? Are you comfortable with books, technology, and busy urban public spaces? Hackley Public Library is seeking a Full-Time Information Specialist to join our team! In this role, you will provide friendly customer service at our public service desks, assist with circulation and basic reference questions, support patrons with technology, and help keep our collections organized and accessible.

What You’ll Do

  • Have a strong interest in books, reading, and lifelong learning and align with our core values in order to promote library services, programs, and upcoming events, and help uphold library policies to ensure a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Use your high school diploma, or equivalent, preferably some college coursework, and 2 years of customer service experience in a library, educational, retail, or similar public-facing setting to provide welcoming, professional service at public service points throughout the library, including the Main Desk and Youth Services Desk, greeting patrons, answering questions, and assisting with wayfinding.
  • Have a helpful and patient demeanor to provide hands on patron support and connect patrons with digital & physical library resources, tools, services, programs, and spaces that support learning, discovery, and enrichment
  • Bring good technology skills and attention to detail to perform circulation tasks including checking materials in and out, processing a variety of transactions, and maintaining library materials to ensure collections remain accessible and well maintained
  • Be comfortable answering basic reference questions, conducting internet inquiries, and directing more complex research needs to librarians.
  • Understand alphabetical organization in English and preferably bilingual in another language reflecting our community to shelve materials, perform shelf reading, and help with inventory and collection maintenance, including identifying damaged items for repair or replacement.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be flexible and adaptable in a changing environment and work both independently and as part of a team in a busy urban public library setting that welcomes and serves people of all backgrounds, ages, and walks of life.
